A major stadium need to be in a city , not in the middle of nowhere. Casement Park is a ready made site and central in terms of road access time. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 19/03/2019 01:26:11 2173577 Link 4 |

Have said before on here, my Grandad was a Cavan man from near Bawnboy and I remember him saying that he could get home from a game in Casement quicker than he could get home from a game in Clones. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 20/03/2019 09:28:39 2173858 Link 1 |

Seems very unfair that Munster has 4 stadiums that can take bigger crowds than 35,000 and Ulster or Connacht haven't 1. Why is that??

Well that cpuld be because you closed the gates to your only stadium before any certain planning was in place. As for the commute I think it's mad to think casement is a easy option for everyone. Clones is very easy to access if ya stay of the major roads there are so many ways in and out of it . Hit the smaller roads and your laughing if your heading dublin direction anyways . farneygael (Monaghan) - Posts: 300 - 20/03/2019 20:43:42 2174046 Link 0 |
Getting in to Clones is " wee buns" loads of little roads on the Fermanagh side which suits Donegal and most of Tyrone anyway. You go in the motorway to Belfast and then you hit a complete bottleneck plus the fact that Casement is a long distance from the city centre and totally lacking in atmosphere around the ground.Unless it has changed recently it is certainly no Drumcondra.

Interestingly since Casement was constructed in 1953 until the Troubles took hold in the early 70s there were as many finals held there as in Clones - they seemed to alternate or close to (with Cavan thrown in one year for good measure). So in a way Clones became the default home due to the Political climate up here. But now that things have moved on and the when it has come to the GAA getting a new stadium pretty much provided for them then they are hardly going to turn down that opportunity. Casement has been earmaked as that stadium and I think even Stevie Wonder could see why a new state of the art stadium would be built in the main city of the Province and not away in some field somewhere in the geographical middle of Ulster.
