I read today kevin cassidy having a cut at Jim. Strange thing to do. 1 all ireland is better than none. 3 Ulsters in 4 years, a NFL, and an u21.Cassidy was all that was wrong with Donegal pre Jim. To have cheap shots now when he is gone I believe is low. To the matter in hand id say Gallagher will get the job. Donegal will go into transition as there will be retirements. their draw is tough in ulster. But Tyrone dont hold much fear anymore and Armagh are a division 3 team. so its not that bad.

I agree with GaryMc in relation to the youth and quality of the DL players at the moment. This would be a dream Management job as the winning attitude and the work ethic are already there.
Players like Frank McGlynn, McLoone, Thompson (& more, of course) are there to bring experience to the team but are still relatively young. Murphy is a phenomenon like no other: he shows Leadership qualities far beyond his years and he is getting better & more shrewd all the time.

I think we will undoubtedly lose Rory, maybe also Christy Toye (though I honestly feel both were very important this year & Christy was consistently good). The young players who have come in have got important game-time & have tasted some success but also now know the pain of losing. That should build on their depth of experience & their hunger for greater success.

As a result, this is a crucial time for the team as what happens next will either bring them to greater things or stunt that development. That is why selecting the right Manager is so vital. I am surprised that more big names have not jumped at the opportunity (perhaps they are interested but are playing their cards close to their chests). I still believe either Canavan or McEntee would be a real asset to us. I already stated that I don't see anyone really from within making much of an impact (& many have now ruled themselves out)but if a Manager were to come from within, I think I'd put McDaid ahead of Gallagher. He has built up a rapport with Murphy & Big Neil already (& interestingly, Neil has stated he is staying on ...maybe he's throwing his weight behind McDaid too), both important players to steer the ship & so, McDaid could indeed be the man for the job.

Have to say db9 I think you are wrong about Armagh. They were close to Donegal this year in the quarter final and with McGeaney moving back I think they will progress on last years showing.Wouldn't pay too much attention to league form.
