interesting fact in Martin McHugh column in Star today.Since 1953 Kerry have played 6 Ulster teams in finals only winning one.1986 against Tyrone.The so called team of the decade of the noughties never beat Tyrone/Armagh in their prime,only beating average Mayo/Cork teams in the final.Will Kerry end their Ulster jinx against Donegal or will they be using the "were in transition excuse" posted by many Kerry posters??

They beat Armagh in 2006 (and yes, armagh were at their best then). They also beat Fermanagh, Monaghan (twice), Derry, Antrim, Tyrone and Cavan in the last ten years. Its not a case of Kerry being afraid of Ulster teams, its a case of Ulster teams NOT being afraid of Kerry (theres a difference).
Enough with the "handy all irelands" crap as well. Its disrepectful. If you believe that all ireland are handily won you clearly dont think much of our games.
Man Utd won numerous premier league titles easily over the last twenty years. Does that lessen their achievement?

Tomas O Shea said as much on the SG recently so I'd imagine the ulster teams enjoy the chance to beat Kerry alright. The Tyrone losses would have put question marks over their achievements and standing alright. I'd fancy Donegal to continue their dominance over Kerry.

3 out of our last 6 All-Irelands required beating the Ulster champion along the way. All 6 required beating an Ulster team at some stage. Ulster is a seriously competitive province. No surprise at all when our championships do end that it's by the capital or an Ulster team.

dont agree that armagh were at their best in 2006 but they were still a brilliant side and in my opinion the second best team in the country at the time and kerry beat them and deserve full credit for it

Interesting fact that Kerry have lost 5/6 All Ireland finals to Ulster opposition since 1953.Tyrone certainly had the edge against them in the noughties.Hopwever,it will have no bearing on nextv weeks final.New teams.The past will count for nothing.Its on the day really.If Kerry can get enough quality ball into O Donoghue and Donaghy,i dont think anything McGuinness will be able to do to stop it.Kerry impressed me greatly in the manner of their victory over Mayo.They seemed dead and buried at times in both games,but somehow found the wherewithall to scrape over the line.Donegal were super efficiant in dismantling the Dublin gameplan,and when they got their noses in front,sadly for us,the writing was on the wall.There was no way back.Im finding it very difficult to call this game.

Armagh peaked 2002 to 05.They recovered from 05 defeat to Tyrone in a remarkable game of ball.The likes of Bellew,MCGeeney,McConville and Marsden didn't have legs for 06.

I suppose what I mean by handy all irelands.Both Mayo games were over after 20mins.Cork game was well won with 15min to go.they bear a decent Galway team in 2000 in fairness.The Armagh 02,Tyrone 05,08 and even Dubs in 2011 were games in the balance in last 10 minutes that Kerry couldn't close out

Whatever about the Dublin Region, some people have an obsession with Kerry vs The Ulster Region! It's amusing to see a collective of counties measured up to one.

Since the qualifiers there has been 1 all Ulster final and 2 all Munster finals. If that stat was the other way around we'd be hearing all about it!

I reckon Armagh were at their most formidable 2002-2006. Just because Kerry beat them doesnt necessarily mean they were past it, (Im pretty sure they were favourites to win that quarter final) it could just mean they werent good enough to beat Kerry.
Okay, therell be question marks over Kerrys inability to win tight games, and thats fair enough, but I dont think its an Ulster thing. the same thing happened against the dubs twice in recent years.
I do agree that if you can keep it tight until the last few minutes against kerry you have a good chance of winning (wherever youre from)

It's ridiculous to turn an impressive final display into something other than the supreme achievements they were. 3 of our last 6 All-Ireland wins were closely fought finals. There were then losses in finals but also awesome displays.
Some prefer to ignore Kerry were attempting back-to-back titles in 05 and a 3 in-a-row in 08. It's then argued Tyrone hadn't the hunger each time they didn't back up an All-Ireland win with a final appearance in the following year.

i would argue jon that armagh were more impressive in ulster in 2005 or 2004 considering the opponents bet and margin of victory and so on...i felt they were at their best in 2004 or 2005 anyway even better than 2002...handymoran is a dub kingdom what do you expect?

Fair enough but from personal experence I dont remember too many people backing them. I dont understand why they were favourites. They had been beaten by Cork in Munster and got through Longford in the qualifiers. Meanwhile Armagh had just won yet another Ulster title, and were seen as a team who were about to atone for the narrow loss to tyrone in 2005.
Dont remember Kerry being favourites at all. Could you tell me which bookies had them 3/1 on? I must go to there in future.

Handy. It's very convenient that Armagh peaked before Kerry beat them by your reckoning. Kerry 97 to 00 peaked and didnt have the legs for 02. Kerry 04 to 07 peaked and didnt have the legs for 08. Kerry lost 05 because back to backs are very hard to do. All very convenient analysis or maybe the best team won. Suggesting Kerry fears ulster suggests soft all irelands for the winners
