5pm. Saturday. Finally. The RTE Sport website has just posted two stories about tomorrow's Leinster Club SFC Final in Navan. Better late than never. Given that Radio 1 Sport is broadcasting the game live it would have been nothing short of bizarre if the website had continued to ignore the game.

Contact them and find out as you have 92 posts here nearly all complaining about RTE but what are you doing about it?
Create a blog highlighting your grievances with RTE, email them, write to them, start protesting outside RTE HQ in Donnybrook...

You have the same number telling him to contact RTE! While you may have point, can you not see that is futile and trivial?

you have over 8000 posts largely acting as some sort of self appointed rugby police

The France/Ireland rugby game in Paris and the world cup soccer final were the 2 most watched events but if you consider the amount of Irish people who were at all 3 events the All Ireland final was probably watched by most people.

These are just RTE viewer figures Ros, id imagine when the Sky figures are added the football final would still be the most watched sports event of the year by a distance.

I've been waiting a long time to see a headline like this 'BRAWL MARS LEINSTER'S VICTORY OVER QUINS'. In fact I'm still waiting.

Ah sure mediaman if a story about Donncha O'Callaghan being cited for, and subsequently suspended for two games for kicking an Ulster player doesn't make a headline then what will?

I mean fair enough a story about one of the provinces naming their 15 for a match against some Italian side in a secondary competition is front page news - apparently this affects fans from all over the country despite only involving one province.

But how a story concerning Munster's most capped player kicking a player from another province didn't make the front of the RTÉ website I'll never know...

Martin Castrogiovanni of Toulon was this afternoon fined 10,000 euro and suspended for 4 matches (suspended) for criticising his opponents Leicester Tigers after their recent meeting. It is reported he accused Leicester Tigers of being 'amateur' in their approach to the game. Such comments are in breach of the European Rugby Champions Cup Participation Agreement. Is it any wonder there is no criticism of Rugby Union in match reports either considering the reaction to this very mild form of criticism. His sanction is in stark contrast to what happened to two of the players involved in the Leinster brawl last weekend - they were only warned - one for putting his opponent in a headlock and the other for throwing several punches at Ian Madigan in retaliation. The media seems to find nothing strange in all this. A 10,000 euro fine and a 4 match ban for an innocent comment yet violence goes unpunished and largely unreported. Now if that was football or hurling.

The Castro incident involved neither an Irish player or irish teams. Why would that be mentioned in Ireland
Your bitterness towards the media and rugby is hilarious and quite sad. To say violence goes unpunished in rugby is laughable and it certainly is reported

Allow me to answer that on behalf of the 'Rugby Police' (as Fabio term's it).

A nice rugby story about some player being given his debut etc is very important to everybody on this island because our teams play in those competitions. We are all fascinated by Connachts team selection.

Any negative rugby stories must be buried and hidden as rugby people have no interest in hearing or reading about it.

Let me add that your ignorance is laughable on rugby matters. Its hillarious etc etc

There can be no better example of the how sections of the Irish media treat Rugby Union in a completely different way to other sports (but particularly football and hurling). The Rugby Union authorities are more interested in image than stamping out violence (sorry about the pun). This week one player was given a hefty fine and a suspended ban for making critical comments about his opponents and another Delon Armitage was banned for 12 weeks for directing bad language towards his opponents supporters. Compare this to what happened as a result of the brawl which marred the Leinster game. The three players involved in the unseemly melee or 'bit of a scrap' as Leinster Rugby described it have all been let off without bans. Matthews who received a yellow card on the night was completely exonerated today. In Rugby union if you say something wrong you get hammered but if you hammer someone you get off. And of course there's no outcry from the Irish media. Nothing new there but it bears repeating.

6pm. Saturday. Hoganstand is currently carried 5 stories of significant interest to all football/hurling followers. Marc O'Se's decision to play on for another year. Shane Curran's move into club management. Martin McElkennon's decision not to join the Donegal backroom team. Paul Conroy being sidelined through injury and tomorrow's unseasonal Tipperary SFC Final. However, not one story has made it onto the RTE Sport website. There are in fact no football/hurling stories in the top 20 on the RTE site. Or the top 40. And there's just one in the top 60. They really don't understand what interests Gaelic games followers. Do they?

In case you missed it mediaman, in a Pro12 game last night there was one of the most violent incidents I have seen on a sports field for quite a long while. A Treviso player was red carded for repeatedly punching a defenceless Edinburgh player on the back of the head as he lay on the ground, which was followed by a lengthy brawl involving a number of players with numerous punches to the head landed. I am sure you will get to read all about these disgraceful scenes on RTE Sport in the coming days, with numerous commentators offering views on appropriate punishments....

The GAA season has finished, for many it effectively finished in late September right about the time the rugby season got going. The rugby is at full tilt for Super 12 and Champions Cup with the 6 Nations around the corner. The League of Ireland is in off season while The Premier League is busiest, game-wise around Christmas. Why should RTE give preference to sports in their off-season while potential listeners or viewers prefer to hear or read news about sports they can actually see or hear at this time of year? Because it's Radio Telefís Éireann should it still give preference to Irish sports even though they're not being played this time of year?
