Dublins run to retaining Sam

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Have just had a look at the potential teams the mighty Dubs may have to play in their quest to retain Sam.If Dublin win Leinster, they'll probably have to beat two Ulster sides to reach a final with Cork/Mayo/Kerry. This will surely be a test of their skills of to varying opponents strengths....the summer is only beginning

Firstly greenandgold I'm sure Dublin's only concern I'd say is_ Meath . and I wouldn't think that any ulster team would hold much fear for them apart from maybe monaghan no other ulster side would worry them, blankets puke or whatever won't cause any problems.

The Dublin Region overcame the Munster finalists and Mayo last year. Just the way the draw has worked out this year that the Ulster finalists are likely to cross their path. Sure last year Mayo beat the Ulster runners-up and the Tyrone team that ended the Ulster champions challenge.

Please read Joe Brolly in today's Gaelic Life. Now Gaelic Life is a GAA paper ,which comes out on a Thursday and it covers The 9 Ulster counties. ( so we are a step in front of the other provinces as far as a GAA paper is concerned).
Now for all you people who think that a blanket defence won't work against Dublin , Joe Brolly might explain how it works.
As he states Dublin ,on their way to the All Ireland last year did not meet a blanket defence team Same applied in this years league. How he explains it is worth a read Donegal with their 6 defenders and in front of them another line of 5 also defending.
He also states of the possibility of a Donegal v Dublin Semi final. Highly likely in my book.So now is the time for Jim Galvin to prepare for that eventuality Do you Think Jim Galvin should think about how to break down a blanket
Same thing in 2012,all I heard was when Donegal won a game:::::wait to they meet Kerry, now Cork is the team to beat them. Well we all know what happened and as Kieran Donaghy said after the Donegal/Kerry game::::it was almost half time before We (Kerry) knew what was going on
What I'm going to say to you Royaldunn is :::: if Donegal meet Dublin and Donegal are anywhere near 2012 form ,.,,,we'll put Dublin to the test.
On the top page of the article(JB) was a picture of the scoreboard in CP , 34 minutes gone and the score ::::Donegal ---0-4-------Dublin:::0-2 2011Semi final Happys day at that stage

There is no such thing as an easy run to an All Ireland & neither should there be.

A lot of people here seem to think that Meath will give Dublin a close run thing, most of them doe eyed Meath men it has to be said. If that proves to be the case then it will be the toughest won All Ireland in living memory as there are many better teams out there waiting for them

Yeah, royal Dunne a bit upset that Meath wasn't mentioned in the likely teams to put it up to Dublin, it's a fair analysis off what Dublin will have to beat, not that it will be a problem to them, as the Dublin boys are backing themselves to win 3/4/5 All Ireland's in a row, check out the Dublin home page and the Bookies are apparently running scared of the Dublin footballers

@ fintownsuburbs - sure unless you win, your championship will end at some stage. Ulster in fairness is the province that opponent has a good chance of being from.

Anyways: 97 Cavan, 00 Armagh, 04 Derry, 06 Armagh, 07 Monaghan and 09 Antrim (Ulster runners-up). 09 was the first All-Ireland we won in that period without having to overcome Ulster opposition from a quarter-final on. It was a hard fought All-Ireland as well. I remember heading to Croke for the quarter-final against the Dublin Region. It was supposed to be the end of that Kerry team and we were to be like a funeral cortege heading home. The football that day was awesome. The dubs in fairness are good craic. A dub quipped that day, if that was Kerry in trouble ye'd want to have a word with Brian Cowan!

The Munster finalists where possibly the weakest Cork and Kerry sides for quite a few years, neither side where really big shakers.

Mayo avenged their All Ireland final loss from the previous September, beating an Injury riddled, undertrained and hungover Donegal side that was a mere shadow of the side Mayo faced the previous September. The 2012 final had 2 really hungry teams face off, Donegal bested Mayo. The 2013 QF had one hungry Mayo team playing a Donegal team with a full belly - I reckon the 2012 result is more accurate.

Tyrone did Indeed lose to Mayo, but they controlled that game until Peter Harte went off Injured. Tyrone beat Monaghan thanks to a few different factors on the day.
1. Monaghan hadn't played a big Championship match in Croker for a few years.
2. Darren Hughes was booked in first half, until which point he had Sean Cavanagh on a tight leash.
3. Conor McManus was rugby tackled, in what would have been a sure goal.
4. Tyrone had been Monaghans bogey team for a good few years.

Had Monaghan drawn anybody else outside of Tyrone or Dublin, Monaghan would have made the All Ireland SF.

The layout of the Qualifiers needs to change, the A/B draw this year has not actually Improved the system at all. Provincial teams should be kept apart in the opening 2 rounds of qualifiers, and maybe in the Quarter final stage of the All Ireland series too.

Only for a terrible refereeing performance in 2010 against Cork and a great save from the Mayo keeper in 2012 we'd be going for 5 in a row right now.

What happened last year won't have any bearing on any game this year. If that was the case Tyrone would still be in the Ulster championship.
Joe Brolly's article give an insight of what could happen in a game ,Dublin v Donegal ---------Dublin's beautiful game v the cold laws of physics.
How after the Laois game P Flynn nudged him(JB) told him to keep talking up Donegal-------- B brogan saying ::::we would have beaten Donegal 2012.
Brolly says they have McGuinness under their skin Dublin players know what is waiting for them, BroganFlynn and the lads can feel it in their bones
Jim Galvin best start preparing The future of football is at stake.
As regards Royaldunn , he seems to think Donegal are finished. Well I think we are better set up at present than Cork,Kerry plus Monaghan are more or less on the same level as Donegal but lack the experience of winning big games in Croke park.
What Joe Brolly also said--------- it keeps going round and round in my head, Is there any reason why Donegal CANT BEAT Dublin.
Await the backlash

Donegal are still formidable but I would fear in this order Mayo, Cork / Kerry and Meath before I started fearing Donegal. Regardless apart from the chosen one Jim McGuinness, Joe Brolly is Donegals greatest PR friend. But in terms of backlash.... well that line made me laugh. thanks.

Don't know why my posts not getting through.
The order of teams at the minute is
Dublin
Mayo/Cork/Kerry
Monaghan
Meath/Donegal/galway
Kildare/Tyrone/

Now very few of the top 4 would fear any ulster side let alone dublin who are out on their own.

Be carful what I wish for in that we get Donegal and beat them? Don't need to be careful in wishing on that one. You mustn't know many Dubs...! yes there is always that fear in the stomach when playing Meath, I respect them, hate loosing to them over any team, they have shown in the past that when they see a Dublin jersey they up their game. They ran us very close last year... so to be honest yeah I'd fear them.
