Non-GAA strongholds in your county

Gleebo the Blues, the Rats and the Plunketts are the northside of the town. The Nicks and the WolfeTones are Southside. Funny enough the Wolfe Tones pitch is just across the border in Meath.

Thanks Ollie. Am I right in thinking that Wolfe Tones play in Meath?

Their pitch is in Meath but they play championship football in Louth.

Ah, yet another club playing in their neighbouring county! You'd swear Ballaghaderreen were the only side to do it, according to the Rossies.Cheers again.

If you look at this map it can seem a bit deceiving. An awful lot of Junior football clubs with no real juvenile structure in place.

Tallaght has 3 GAA clubs and approx 20 soccer clubs to 100,000 people.
From Irishtown down to Dalkey along the coast or inland 3/4 miles is all rugby country.

Southside in general is not GAA land, either Rugby or soccer with 3/4 big GAA clubs.

Tallaght really has a catchment that would include Ballyboden and St. Judes, then add St. Marks springfield, Thomas Davis, St Annes, and I believe one more in Jobstown so I think that area is a bit stronger than you say. Also there is a lot of soccer clubs, true, however the membership is pretty low in those clubs compared to the GAA clubs. 4 of the above mentioned are some of the biggest GAA clubs in Dublin.

Gleebo i say there is a few cases of clubs who have their pitch in their neighbouring county. As far as I know Killanny who play in Monaghan have their pitch in Louth and I think down in Limerick one of the clubs has their pitch in Kerry.

Won Junior B football championship, beaten in Junior hurling final, won two or three Dublin underage leagues. All in last ten years Cued.

Not bad going. Maybe the club should give up?

Someone told me once that Ballinderry Shamrocks, play in Derry but are located just over the border in Tyrone. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

Inner city Dublin has very little in general.
Joeys are a junior football club, most kids that have a real interest in GAA travel up to Vinnies or O'Tooles depending on who Daddy played for when he was younger.

Tallaght has 3 clubs really - Davis, Annes & Marks.
Davis are on the decline at the moment and the others have never really been big clubs.

Big disadvantage with Cork in that regards.Cork have huge clubs in the city.Weve barely any interest in the city.Waterford and Kilkenny very strong in respective cities also. Not to sure about Galway.

No but the question is about strongholds - surely you cant say they they provide a GAA stronghold in North innercity Dublin.

Far from it, just like Tallaght, yes there are clubs there but soccer is the stronghold out there.

How many clubs are "strongholds"? There are lots of clubs in Dublin that never had a Dublin senior. Joeys did and indeed won Dublin back in the day. Same in other counties. So what?

I hate this big club snobbery and am 100% with my Donegal friend on this matter.
