Yes, in the absence of any proof that SKY is out to destroy the GAA, lets Judge it on its merits - which we won't be able to do until at least two years time.

I didn't say Corps didn't have moral obligations just that I avoid making my own moral judgements on the corporations.

Sky's first Football game will be the Sligo v Galway Conancht semi final at 7pm Sat evening slot.

That will be the end of any hopes of promoting the games in UK.

Ok. And similarly, lets allow people to judge certain corporations on their own merits, without having to qualify them by giving their opinion on all corporations.

when they get their feet under the carpet times and dates could be sorted around their preferances
that would be dictating

so dublin can meet kerry then in the all ireland quarter final
if dublin win leinster and kerry come through qualifier ?
leinster winners quarter final is down for saturday along with ulster and sky sports have both games

Hill if we win leinster we cant play Kerry in quarters unless they lose before the Munster final. I reckon we will be playing the ulster Final losers because they go into pot B and leinster winners play a team from pot b although Meath are in pot b also . Kerry are in pot b at the moment but Munster final losers go into pot a , so we wont get either Cork or Kerry in quarters,
Mayo v Cork / Kerry in quarters I reckon and if we are lucky enough to win leinster It could be us against Donegal/Tyrone/ Monaghan . Although Laois, Meath or Kildare might have a say in who we play yet.

I have no love for England But me wanting something as important as this to go through congress has nothing to do with that , it's to do with having to pay €70 a month to watch a game that me and my ancestors helped to make what it is today , it wouldn't be so bad for me coz I can go to all Kerry's games but iv got uncles and grand uncles who live in isolated areas of the county that can't really leave their houses not even for mass, and they live for the bit of football on the telly it all they got, and they can't afford sky end of , they gave their best days to their clubs both playing and coaching and the least they deserve from the GAA is being able to watch the games they love for free. What do you think master? Now the GAA which is supposed to be inclusive is gone slightly exclusive , and I'm sure there is people like my uncles and grand uncles all over Ireland .

I think most of us realise that some people are going to feel disgruntled or hard done by this. No pain no gain etc. RTE are still showing at least one if not two live championship game every weekend as well as the Sunday Game on Sunday nights so it's not all that different than before so it's not all doom & gloom.

There's another side to this: maybe people will become more neighbourly & community aware. Why not offer to bring one of these elderly lads to the match or to the nearest pub showing it? Years ago everyone went to one house to listen to the match on the radio or watch it on the the box in black & white. Ireland needs to get back some of this kind of spirit which was once prevalent & I don't mean that in a patronising way.

As I said several times before on here, let's see where this venture takes us as an association & together we can change it in 3 years if that is the overall will of our membership.

THE SUN NEWSPAPER has bought into the GAA's plans to go global by signing up Ian Wright as its expert on all things Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the subject but as you say judge on the merits of the deal not the merits of the Murdoch empire. If you want to criticize the deal because its with SKY just because its SKY, then yes you cannot ignore the fact you are making moral judgements about who the GAA deals with and you need to examine all the companies that the GAA deals with - you cannot just stop with SKY. Liking or disliking the murdoch empire can have a lot to do with ones political views which would even point to a further reason why it should never be part of this discussion.

No it would be a request that the gaa could accept or reject. They don't have the power to dictate anything, just like the other television stations; tv3, rte, setanta and tg4. Similarly, the same case could be put to them, it isn't something specific to sky. Also, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that this is any way likely. It is just scaremongering on your part from what I can see. Sky cant dictate anything any more than tv3 could. They have no actual say on anything other than their own coverage.

What's the point in having a congress if GAA hierarchy are going to take the big decisions away from the people?, so we now have a dictatorship instead of a democracy , if it had gone to congress and was voted for by the people then I'd accept the decision I still wouldn't be overly happy but I'd get on with it.

Why would they pay 70 when they can get it for 37?
Secondly, rte are showing the same amount of games as last year, they aren't viewing any less games than before. If they want to see MORE games they can pay the 37 euro for 2 months of the summer and see 14 more games, or they can stay as they were last year and not pay. Now 74 euro for another 14 games they wouldn't have seen previously is around €5.30 a game. If they wanted to go to these games - the only other way they would have seen them - it would have cost them a fair bit more than a 5er, wouldn't you agree? Sky is helping your uncles and grand uncles, and mine also. If they cant afford it, like you say, then they can stick with rte and see the same number of games as last year. Where are they losing out exactly?

Here is a question for you, and indeed everyone. If rte provided a service where they would provide an extra 14 games on top of what they already provide for free, except you had to pay to see these extra games to cover the costs of showing them, what would your reaction be? Well done rte on providing a service for people?
