Sky Sports' GAA - I love it!!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With Sky having first pick on a number of Saturday evening qualifier games, I can't wait for the reaction should we end up with Dublin v Kerry not being available on Irish tv on a Saturday night or Kilkenny v Tipp like last year. Let's see how positive people are towards the deal then.....

Mike03,
if you lived in the north it was a lottery if you got TV3 or not, so missing saturday night games and AI minor finals will be nothing new to us.

The GAA signing up to TV3 was a disgrace as it didn't cover the whole island, at least Sky do, granted you need to have Sky and a sports subscription, but with TV3, there was no way whatsoever of getting it.

Those damn Mourne mountains!

yeah i notice the leinster champions and ulster champions quarter finals
are declared as a double header in croke park on a saturday evening
that must be to suit sky sports also as its a week after the other two quarter finals
involving the connacht and munster champions

Won't happen unless those teams you mention are knocked out of their provincial championships...

Keeper 7 I know it probably won't happen. That wasn't my point. I'm saying I can't wait for the reaction IF it happens

I hate SKY and always have done, along with FOX news, The Sun, the NOTW, and all Rupert Murdoch's disgusting empire.

Have you any problem with the GAA accepting money from Diageo or Etihad? just wondering where does your moral crusade begin and end?

So if you don't have a problem with every single thing, you can't have a problem with any one thing?

could cause the gaa headaches that weekend as the following day the all ireland hurling semi final takes place
involving the leinster champions
if dublin win football and hurling in leinster they could both be playing within 24 hours
and if it was dublin v kerry in the quarter final on the saturday evening alongside maybe donegal v kildare/meath
there would be a scramble for tickets and it might make them reconsider

The language implies a moral disgust with SKY and therefore the GAA for accepting their money. The question therefore relates to the moral issues of where the GAA accepts its money from? is that now narrow enough for you? I personally do not try to make moral judgements on corporations, if you do then you have to look at all. For what its worth, I would say Diageo have done more harm to the fabric of Irish society than the sky empire could ever.

Indeed, drinks companies could certainly be viewed as having a detrimental effect on Irish society. But its possible to take a wider view of the world, and not just consider how things effect Irish society. And in that context, the conglomerate in question would be seen in a different light. As someone living in the USA, who never ceases to be shocked by the untrammeled hatred I hear spewed by certain media outlets, the growth of certain media corporations does give me pause.

But I guess that's beside the point. It should be possible to judge something on its merits, and give an opinion, without bootstrapping it to other issues. A debate goes nowhere when that happens.

As for not making moral judgements on corporations, why would you limit yourself like that? Should corporations not have moral obligations?
