The BBC have just reported several players including Mark McHugh have walked out on the county? Any details?

Counting down until we are told this is just another brilliant psychological ploy by Jim.

McHugh is a massive loss. Gary McFadden and Tommy McKinley not so much.

Apparently it is a club v county issue.

Wheels are coming off fairly spectacularly.

Why has this leaked to the press though? Surely the Donegal CB should have dealt with this behind closed doors. There has to be room for compromise there. If I was involved with Donegal my biggest problem with this would be the mouthpiece who leaked what should be an internal issue. Will reserve judgement until we see the full story though.

Whether or not there is any truth in this, the club players in Donegal must be so browned off with the whole thing. If I was one, I would be finding another game to play.

my thoughts exactly. If you play any other sport your guaranteed meaningful matches. GAA your at the mercy of the county team. Most of the time your stuck playing crappy friendlies and leagues games untile everything is thrown at you in august and september. the whole ficture issue is a mess but I think this is for another day

Westmeath 16. What about this could possibly be funny.
while it might seem advantageous to other counties. Namely Derry, I want to beat them in the first round . But there will be no pleasure in beating half a team.
I dont like mc Guinness tactics but Donegal like ourselves have had enough relationship problems. I had thought and hoped they had sorted theirs.

Best to wait and see

But if I was to hazard a guess it would be down to the club thing alright

I have nothing bad to say about Donegal and Jim McGuinness seems like a nice lad. This is fabulous news. It's about 10 years too long that we are waiting for county players to stand up for the at best shabby, at worst disgraceful, treatment the clubs have been getting for a long time. This is great news for the GAA if McHugh and others have walked after McGuinness held the county board to ransom in getting all club games cancelled until he decides they can play.

Would this affect Ryan McHugh aswell? As in would he too walk in support of his brother, especially if it's regarding their club? I've seen previous examples before where if one brother leaves the county panel in bad circumstances another might aswell.

Jim McGuinness isn't just unpopular outside of Donegal. Rightly, or wrongly, he has plenty of enemies in the county too. I'm not one of them however there are plenty of big clubs with big names who wouldn't be a fan of his and wouldn't care what was leaked to whom if it thought it would undermine the County Management such is the bitterness towards him.

Also McHugh himself wouldn't be one to hold counsel on these matters so it could have come straight from the horses mouth. As far as I know Mark was contacted by media and would not make a comment... I'd say the media put two and two together after that!

Sad times - thankfully Ryan McHugh has come of age, providing he doesn't walk either.

Lads, please don't be believing this malarkey about this is over fixtures, nothing could be further from the truth, Mc fadden, Mc Kinley let go from the panel due to not being good enough, Mc Hugh let go for discipline reasons, this should have happened 12 months ago, Mc Guinness just showing that no player is bigger than the team and right he is, even though Mc Hugh would like to believe that he is, the timing of this is unfortunate but Mc guinness cant control when players step out of line, I'm hoping it may have the same effect as the Cassidy incident but I doubt it due to the timing..... Don't think there will be a lot of the players losing any sleep over this to be honest, which does say a lot if you get me??

How do people know that it is club v county thing ?? Could there be other things involved ?? There is no point having unhappy players in the panel. We have to have discipline and the manager has to have authority. Look back at Donegal in 2002. Drew with Dublin and look what happened in the replay. Some of the players were supposed not to have got home until the middle of the week after the drawn game. Got hammered in the replay. It happened to us time and time again until J McG came along and I can tell you all it was a very welcome All Ireland Every week the papers were full of Donegal and their partying.
As regards club and county look what's happened to -A Kernon of Armagh ,got injured in a club game and being just back from injury now is doubtful for the first round. Any county manager don't want to be in that situation but how do you adjust and find a suitable solution.
Jim Mc Guiness did not hold the county to ransom, a vote was taken and it was agreed to suspend the club championship until as such time the senior team were gone out of the AI race. A lot of Donegal people wanted him to stay. As a poster said JMcG can go back to his day job at CELTIC , well there's not many GAA county managers who can do that once their teams gone. Another thing going to CELTIC is like Home from Home.
