Sky Pundits

Not too bothered by analysis, it never really interested me and I would have expected Sky to take the safe option. I just want our games out there for a much larger audience and Sky can provide that, so I have no major concerns so far.

I wouldn't say that it's 'stupid' to choose Niall Quinn, why would it be stupid, he's articulate, intelligent, looks the part and knows the game. Galvin and Canavan? Loved to watch them play but I've heard Galvin's radio program, very poor, it'll turn into a fashion show, lol. Anyway we'll see how it goes, give them a chance at least eh!

Following comments are written "with malice to none" , as the supposed purpose of this Sky venture is to promote hurling and football to a wider and "international" audience, I suggest that voices to be heard should all come across as preferably Irish but distinctly neutral so they can be clearly understood by an international audience. This would rule out the likes Galvin, Canavan, Pat Spillane, Donal O'Grady (too "Cork" and too serious), Tomas Mulcahy ,again too local of an accent and speaks too fast for TV. Same goes for anything too Mayo, Galway or Dublin, Donegal or Meath as with Colm ARourke" (writing it the way Colm says it) Have not heard Niall Quinn speak but he imagine he has international appeal and I would I go with recommendation of previous poster who says he is articulate, (key) and intelligent.. etc . In order to be heard, (and thus followed and promoted, one must be understood.

having an ex soccer player fronting a gaa match hardly a genius idea
why can they not go for an ex gaa player what next a rugby analyst that played in england
they are differant sports gaa programme should have gaa people not soccer, rugby, cricket or table tennis

Dara o'Cinneide
Dick Clerkin
Darragh O'Se
Banty (he would be like the Kris Kamara of the GAA)

The sky deal is aimed at the UK market therefore as other people pointed out they may go for more neutral accents - mind you it hasn't stopped ITV from using Roy Keane. You have to admit despite all the naysayers, the whole sky thing is adding a bit more life to the start of the championship. Lets hope they live up to the hype.

I have to agree I wont be able to take it seriously with N Quinn fronting the GAA coverage. They should went after an Ex player like Dara o Cinneade to front the coverage.

On the Plus side the rumour mill is saying Canavan and Galvin will be on as analysts I always liked listening to canavan when he was on TV3.

It will be available in the UK, but the Sky deal is primarily aimed at the Irish market, or aimed at keeping up Irish Sky Sports subscriptions during the summer months. So I'm not sure if the accent thing will be as much of a problem.

Looks like Galvin and Canavan anyway, I was just thinking of Quinn's SKY connections and him as the anchor man, not the pundit.

This idea keeps being brought up. It's nonsense. Sky are trying to fill a hole in their Irish market that opens up every summer when the H Cup and the soccerball ends and people cancel their subs for a few months.

The estimate of people living in the UK with an Irish Grandparent is six million - why would Sky only want to concentrate on Ireland?

In addition the push from the GAA to Sky is for them to market the product in the UK and ultimately Europe as that is where the GAA sees the potential and growth. Sky may very well benefit in Ireland from the deal but their's and the GAA's will always be limited given the size of the market.
