Good commentators can add to the excitement hill, also they're handy for players names etc, so I'd that the language they speak is important, not detrimental but important.

Well look I have Sky and have had since 1998 and to me they always took the 'safe option' if you want to call it when it comes to analysis, they don't generally go for the Spillane, Dunphy or Hook types. So anybody who thought they were going to go down that route probably hasn't got Sky or was being naive, Sky kick to touch, that's their MO as far as I'm concerned.

But I think they will be a major improvement on TV3 simply because Sky can get the games out their, that's why I'm happy about the Sky deal. Ok I accept peoples concerns over having to pay extra money to see our national sports and if this doesn't work out I'd be ok with the Gaa parting ways with Sky but again if people were expecting world class analysis from Sky then they don't really know Sky.

The first part of your post is it in a nutshell I think. Those who already have Sky are happy enough whereas those who don't are naturally going to question it more to see if it would be worth the extra money. To be honest, for me, I'm not willing to pay extra to get the same thing as RTÉ/TV3.

I don't understand in terms of Ireland that Sky will "get the games out there" more than TV3 but will take your point re the UK market.

Again one of the reasons given to support a Sky deal was that their packaging of the games would be better than RTÉ/TV3 so it is only natural that people would be underwhelmed by Sky being an expensive version of TV3 now.

But its not the same product. Its in HD, its available on phones and tablets and its available in Northern Ireland.

Can I ask who you would liked to have seen? Who would have changed your mind about the whole deal?

It's available in the North to those who can pay. Good enough I suppose.

The rest of things don't bother me, I don't have a tablet and have never watched a game on my phone, therefore as far as I can see I'd be paying extra for the same thing TV3
had last year.

we could get it London but at the start of this soccer season just finished, all the major internet providers (I am with BT)were told by Sky/Premier League to block all free access to Firstrowsports. So we lost that link. The quality was so poor it really was not worth using it anyway.

And that's beside the fact using those links does the GAA no good. If everyone watched illegal streams TV stations would go out of business all over the place. it's like people using ad block but reading websites that people had to put time and money into making/updating.

No but you could stream it on the sky go app for 12 euro a month and the quality will be a lot better than the crappy firstrowstreams. The sooner they get banned the better like in the UK. Can't stand people who think everything in life should be free.

There is laws around how to spread the links here in Ireland. You cant legally post links up on open forums any more.
And nothing wrong with getting something for free and by getting links doesn't mean someone thinks everything should be free.
And frontrowsports etc are not always crap and skygo not viable alternative for some

nothing wrong with the quality of the darts every thursday night on firstrow comes in perfect
the same as most soccer or rugby matches on it as long as you have sopcast downloaded your in buisness.
im not paying 12 euro a month what a waste when hopefully il be actually at some of the games they are actually showing.
some times I dont get you , your all for exposing our games the more people who get to see them the better
but yet your looking for dublin to ply the likes of westmeath in a 10 thousand capacity venue like mullingar
which will leave thousands without the chance to experiance the games thus reducing the exposure

The Orminator is not happy with me lately on the rugby forum. So it was a last resort sort of thing agreeing with you, take it with a pinch of salt!

Anyway I never said Westmeath I listed grounds that can take 17-25k people. This exposing more people to the matches is a load of crap when the reality is for some ties only 25k dubs will watch it in Croker. Westmeath last year a case in point. I know there was 33k at it but about 25k were Dubs. Now if that was against Wexford or Laois in O'Moore park or Wexford Park you'd definitely have a lot less Dubs going and I'd say you'd just about fill them with the remainder of the Laois/Wexford support which isn't exactly huge.

You now have either 25k/27k at the match and a cracking atmosphere. The other fixture Kildare v Ofally would be in a seperate venue and have 10-15k at it. Over all more people would actually see last years double header but even if they didn't so bloody what. WHen I said exposure I didn't mean getting the maximum number of dubs to go. I meant giving other parts of Leinster big matches. I believe any county should be entitled to enter a home/away agreement with any other county for the preliminary and quarter finals. The only exceptions would be the Dublin v Meath/Kildare fixtures. Neither Meath nor DUblin would object to their fixtures being played in croker park especially when they could have up to 50k at them.

It's doing nothing for the championship having the rest of the counties especially the likes of Carlow and Westmeath having to always play the Dubs in croker. Nobody from these counties travel to Dublin for the inevitable slaughter but if they were to be at home every second meeting they would and if Lonford v Dublin 2005 (i think) is anything to go by it would make Leinster a far better competition.

Another thing is Meath haven't played a home Leinster match since 1995. That's an absolute farce, and I hope they've home/away agreements in place with most counties at this stage.

Jack,

Did Meath not play Louth in Navan in a Leinster Championship game a few years back? Ollie Murphy/Gerathy I think got a late late goal to win the game? I know it wasn't 2003 but maybe 2002

there is no ground in leinster currently capacle of holding 25-27 thousand outside croker
portlaoise weighs in at around 20 thousand and the same for wexford park and nowlan parkbecuase of health and safety
throw in the fact that portlaoise town cannot cope with a half full ground over the last couple of years if you doubled that
you would have the locals kicking up murder and it is a non runner the leinster council already stated.
so basically your all for exposing the games to everybody exceot dubs is what your saying
reducing the attendance by half of the what you can have is turning people away.
that match v longofrd in pearse park dublin won I dont understand why people keep referencing that one game as to suggest
because longford played well that day that simply the home ground made all the differance
wexford have played dublin several times over last 5 or 6 years and ran us a lot closer and them games were in croke park
not wexford park. people seem to forget the most glaring stat for dublin playing leinster championship games outside of croke park
which is when was the last time we actually lost a match in the compeition outside of croke park?

hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 21/05/2014 11:10:56    1591167

What a load of waffle. Don't want to get into this debate but Wexford prob would have beaten yous if they played it at home. Just because they ran you close doesn't mean a thing. And Dublin had were going for what 5/6 Leinsters in a row? Hardly the biggest achievement in the world and Meath hammering you in 2010 showed just how seriously dublin were taking the championship. Jim Gavin coming in was the worse thing for Leinster. He'll not them slip up lightly.

Anyway back to what I was saying and your reply. How the f*** am I saying attendances will be halved? I just don't get you sometimes. There were 33k at the double header last year. Are you really telling me that if Kildare v Ofally took place in Tullamore there wouldn't be 10-15k at it? Because they played in the Leinster quarters in the last 2 or 3 years and they had something like 17k in O'Moore park for it. That fixture on it's own outside of croker would nearly make up half the 33k. And as you say there are grounds that could hold 20k which would be fine for dublin on the road.

I'd argue between the two fixtures you'd have more than 33k at it nevermind half. So yeah I'm all for promotion of the games. ANd as for places not being able to handle 20k that's a load of bull. 2011 navan hosted 2 qualifiers the first with 17k and the second with a little more. There was no major issue with it afterwards and everything cleared up within half an hour.

O'moore park and Tullamore would have an hours jam afterwards but so bloody what. People wait just as long on the m50 in traffic going to work at rush hour. It's a lame excuse not to be having it. ANd I'm not surprised Leinster council came out with it. Wexford town can cope with a big crowd and so can Nowlan Park. Did you not know Kilkenny and Tipp played twice there last year with crowds over 20k both times and no word of the town shutting down and the residents in uproar. Country folk don't kick up a fus for a big match especially when they only happen ever 3/4 years. Local economy benefits hugely from it. That's another big positive.

And one last thing. Thurlers. Half the size of portlaoise according to wiki and it can host matches with over 40k. So please just stop with the whole a town can't take a 20k crowd for one day. Local business would be in heaven so i'd imagine locals would be in support if anything.

So yeah take the dubs out of croker for the quarter finals, boost local economies, promote the game outside dublin, give the dubs fans a nice country trip, packed stadium atmostphere and the end result will prob be dublin wining by a few points less than they do in croker.

Stop trolling with the names Jack_Goff. Ormond is the name. nobody calls you "ja go" do they?
Perhaps Dublin should play more games outside CP but is it worth financial hit and would it really be worth it?
Don't think it would make any difference to likes of Carlow/Westmeath and why deprive so many of going to games by playing them elsewhere

Jack_Goff

you realy buy into this home advantage malark too much dont you
you still havent answered the question of how many times have dublin been beaten in leinster outside croker in the last 40 years.
so wexford would have beaten us in wexford park but couldnt do it in croke park
because in wexford park instead of having 40 thousand dubs and 3 or 4 thousand wexford people WATCHING A MATCH
you would instead have 15 thousand dubs and 3 or 4 thousand wexford WATCHING A MATCH
that would make all the differance on the pitch you think?

on the kildare v offaly match
offaly arent going to turn out for that game regardless as they hadnt a hope and football is at a low ebb in the county
as for kildare im sure they are more inclined to go to croker then tullamore.
they played as part of double headers in portlaoise with laois involved in games there and got 15 thousand for the 4 teams
so to answer your question no I dont think they would get more for kildare v offaly in tullamore.
why would it be fine for dublin in 20 thousand?
we have been getting more then 20 thousand throughout the league for games
so you then want to turn around and tell people when comes to championship the main gaa compeition
sorry we have an 82 thousand stadium that can accomadate anybody wishing to watch the games but instead we are going to reduce the amount of people who can experiance our games

the two hurling matches in portlaoise last year with 11 thousand caused mayhem in the town afterwards
the gaa have stated these provincial grounds cannot hold full houses logisticaly it causes too much intereference for the general public.
so the end result will be less people get to watch the gaa matches and less exposure for the gaa but as long as sky sports are exposing it to english people who may we add wont be attending games thats all that matters it seems in your world jack goff

I haven't read all your posts but home advantage is proven to be just that, an advantage, in the majority of sports all around the world. Whether it is a mental thing or not is irrelevant. Its there and it effects teams at the very highest level, even those who are mentally stronger than most and have the best coaching and psychology available to them. I don't understand why people find this so hard to accept.
