Gooch injury?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Best wishes from all in Cavan. Colm was up coaching kids in Cavan this year. What a terrible loss to the game. Last years display against the Dubs was one of the greatest by any centre-forward since I started watching our games as a kid.
Get well soon!!

Not to be negative but it will be difficult to come back from that. He'll be 32 by the time he next features in an AI and this type of injury can have long lasting effects. Very sad news that we may not get to see the Gooch in his prime play again, especially disappointing after his brilliant AI last season. The greatest footballer I've ever seen. Lets all hope he recovers fully and swiftly.

__________

Henry Shefflin was able to come back... I have no doubt that Cooper stands every chance of making a successful return

But time inst on his side... and the problem is you cant rush this type of injury

Look at what happened to Mark Davoren... a marvelous Dublin prospect and plagued with a similar injury... came back after recovery and in his first game back... it happened again.

No doubt this is a career ending injury but using Shefflin as an example... hopefully we'll see Cooper on the pitch again

It's actually amazing how influential he is in general, on PP Kerry have gone out to 9/1 from 6/1 last night, for the AI!

Terrible news for football in general.

Hoping for a speedy recovery and for The Gooch to get back to his best, even if it only for a year or 2 after the injury.

Deserves to go out on top!

What a terrible blow, not just to himself & Kerry but to the game of gaelic football. A real sickener.

I know Henry came back, but for every guy who comes back 100% I'd be willing to bet that there is another that either doesn't come back the same as he was before or gets plagued by injuries afterwards.

I'd love nothing more than to see Gooch come back to peak form in 2015. He's a special player, one of a kind.

Devastating news for Cooper, Kerry and the GAA in general. Hopefully its a speedy non complicated recovery for him.

I firmly believe that the true mark of a great sportsman/woman is his/her ability to make their sport look so effortless and easy on the biggest stage against the top top opponents. Colm Cooper is up there among those greats. Consistently over a long period of time he had been a torn in the side of manys a great team.

Saw it first hand yet again in his first half performance against Dublin in september when he just slit us open time and time again, He just toyed with us. Make a very accomplished half-back like Ger Brennan look like he had never played Gaelic football before he was that good. Probably one of the best halfs of football ive seen an individual play. The Lionel Messi of Gaelic football.

Im not writing his obituary but it will be very difficult to come back, But Henry Shefflin has done it, Though for every one that has, 2 or 3 havent, Case in point is our own Mark Davoren. It would be a shame if an injury like this cut his career short, I pray that he comes back fit and healthy wether its later this year, Or next year and gives us another few years of his unbelievable class.

Regardless of wether this injury finishes him or he comes back, One things almost certain in my eyes, I dont believe i will ever see someone as talented do the things that Gooch has done in his career so far. A true genius in every sense, Gutted for the guy.

Yeah you're right... but all you can do is wish for the best

He doesn't deserve to go out like this... he certainly is one of a kind.

Big pity. I hope he is back in business soon, and if that means not playing for a year, people should respect his decision if it comes to this. It is an amateur game and he has given so much over the years. Good luck to the man, going to be missed by everyone this season.

Awful news. Looked bad on Saturday and that was sadly the case. Speedy recovery Gooch. The best ever, in my opinion.

Slightly off topic, but something needs to be looked into about cruciate ligament injuries. They've completely plagued the GAA for the last 5 years especially. Not a coincidence if you ask me.

I hope he can recover fully but by the time he returns he'll be 31 if you look at say Vidic at Man United hes isn't half the player he use to be...
