Sunday game coverage of Ladies All Ireland finals

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Did anyone else think that last nights coverage of the Ladies All-Ireland was disgraceful.

Many congrats to clare on there all ireland win but i thought that the lack of respect given to the ladies was bad form. No visit to the banquet not Presentation to the Player of the Game. They had the saturday game to deal with the hurling and fair being fair the ladies football deserved there moment in the sun and the same respect afforded to the mens game.

What do others feel in this respect

Look, give it up with the false 'outrage' will ya!

The amout of air time the ladies game/presentations/banquet or whatever got is proportional to the amout of followers it has (as seen from its tiny match attendance figures) and that is only a handfull of people!!!

I suppose, unless you ARE a lady, you're not going to be too bothered!

its all about ratings.

The clare v cork game will attract a much greater audience hence why they put more emphasis on that.

I posted a personal opinion and i thought that was what this form was for. I dont believe it is "FALSE OUTRAGE" i firmly believe that the ladies football should be afforded the same courtesy as the Ladies hurling and get the same air time. Also i grant you that the ladies does not attract the same numbers as the mens sport but maybe with better promotion it can grow and be another feather in the GAA'S cap. I am surprised to the reaction however where the comment were vehement in their dismissal of the ladies who put the same level of commitment and effort into their sports as the men do into theirs. But just like me having the right to bring it up in a tread you have the right to dismiss them.

Personally i follow all of the football hurling and camogie and watched the ladies comagie final between galway and kilkenny. And im sure there are more out there like me that appreciate their efforts and the strides their games have made in the last ten years.

I was at the match on saturday and it was an epic game. But at the same token there was the saturday game to address that. I personally dont feel that there was a necessity to give the lions share of the sunday game as well to the hurling at the expense of the ladies football.

ritchie,

I am being blatantly honest with you! A few points:

1. Ladies are sponsored by TG4!.....TG4 showed the games as a poster pointed out!
2. TV is all about ratings, BIG Business! You start showing ladies football for a long period on SG or whatever and peoples hands start to reach for the flicker!

I do appreciate what you are talking about with the ladies games and the efforts they put in of course, but do not lose sight of the business case for TV....because that is KING!

None of the cork or clare fans could have possibly made it back for the saturday game. It's probaly the best game in the last 15 years why wouldn't they show it before a football game? This is nothing against ladies football (If there was 80,000 at it i would pick it over the men's football any day) it's just the fact that if the hurling match wasn't on first i defineltly wouldn't have watched it.

Its sad but its true. Six counties involved in football finals for ladies and still Croke park was mostly empty. Obviously not too many cork fans stayed on for the ladies match. Probably half the crowd were related to the girls playing in some way. Its just not got the same general appeal as the mens game.
Of course they put in huge effort and huge respect to them for that but until the LGFA and the camogie are fully integrated into the GAA they will always be seen as less important.
No amount of Sunday Game coverage will change that. Its up to the associations to bring the crowd to finals. Half the country is female yet I guarantee you that 90% of the people watching the Sunday Game last night were men.
Its not RTE's fault that they wont watch their own games.

I was highly impressed with the young lady from Dublin who was analysing the Ladies Football, I could have watched her all night long :)

Likewise gilly, I was highly impressed with the Tipp camogie pundit!
My mot has me rumbled though, she knows Im only pretending to be interested in camogie and LF as an excuse to watch some rare GAA eye candy on SG!

The analysis of the ladies game on RTE was a complete cop out. They never even referred to Gregory McGonigles questioning of the referees decision to sin bin Elaine McKenna and they blatantly ignored the fact that a team that had been beaten twice in what is essentially a knockout competition was still able to go on and win it.

I applaud the ladies footballers & would give them every encouragement. They are an integral part of the GAA and long may it remain so.

However, it does have to be said that the standard isn't great compared to the men & a good men's club side would beat them out the gate.

Sad but true.
