@ jack in the box.

Was it as good as Johnnys after you romped through Leinster to claim the OB Cup. :-)

We all know he is a disaster with speeches!

Thats why all Dubs wanted us to win everything, just to force Cluxton to speak! It hurt him so much :)

The speech was alright but its not fait to criticse a great player for not talking well. He seems a shy boy and the talking isnt why youd pick a captain. Cluxton is a great goalie, one of the best and judge him that. The bit of Irish is nice to hear but its not the end of the world when he does not talk it well. These men are all amaters and they give us great entertainment. I wasnt too happy with jiim Galvins comments but ,sin sceal eile

I thought Canavans speech was articulate and precise very much like his football... Loved the way he referenced mickey hartes we got the world tonight. As for someone who hates public speaking the horrible feeling of panic and a fear of making a tool out of myself really puts me of doing presentations and stuff like that, it's very hard to overcome. Would rather get a third and fourth man tackle of francie bellew and mick Lyons. Though I really think its a sad day to be as pedantic as to pick the bones of a players speaking ability. Cluxton is as normal as they come, a little reserved a little shy, it seems nobody is commenting on him walking up to A O'S and genuinely seeing was he ok after the match. I was touched by that.

As for the three cheers, who cares? It's cringeworthy.

People are talking here about the best speeches ever and no one has mentioned Joe Conollys in 81. As Gaeilge ó thus go deireadh except for 'people of Galway We love you'. What a speech from start to finish. Emmigration, Gaeilge, a long wait and the Pope!

If he couldn't speak fluently in Irish, I wouldn't personally see it disrespectful, he's no Joe Connolly. Better that than going through the motions and reciting inter cert Irish from the Hogan Stand. That's more than a bit embarrassing at times.

As someone said earlier, Lee Chin's speech after the Leinster U21 was utterly disrespectful, face in hands stuff.

As for the three cheers business. Where on earth did that originate from? Does anyone know? It always struck me as an imperial hangover i.e. Hip hip horrah. Wouldn't be a fan.

Cualann - Paud Ó Sé speech in 1985 was excellent as Gaeilge.

Joe Connolly's was something special alright.
(it was 1980 though. There's not many Galway people who'll thank you for bringing up 1981 !)

I must have missed something about Lee Chin - what was so bad about it ?

Cluxton's speech ? he's not a great speaker, no big deal. He's some keeper now. Cluxton or John O'Leary - there's a question for the Dubs !
