Fouling and commentators/pundits at Dublin v Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

First of all congrats to Dublin. However what we have seen again today is the blinkered commentary and punditry of RTE. Tyrone got one hell of abuse a few weeks ago but today there was more cynical fouling from both teams in one game than I believe Tyrone did all year. These rose tinted opinions regarding the so called beautiful teams is getting rather boring and pathetic to listen to. I saw at least 3 rugby tackles today and a few score able situations being stopped cynically. Is it a case that some teams can do it but others can't?

Nothing even particularly special about today. There's no double standards with any county. Just one over-zealous pundit who was centrally involved with the back card debate and saw an opportunity to drive his point home on live TV. To paraphrase the man himself asking him not to do it is liking asking a man with diarrhea not to...

I distinctly remember hearing the commentators saying that Johnny Cooper's tackle on Gooch was just as cynical as Cavanagh's.

Michael Lyster - is he an anchor man or an analysist , today he kept interuppting Brolly and O'Rourke with nothing to back it up,

It was a foul on Cooper - trip possibly - yellow/red - no analysis - could have hada major turning point, as regards the penalty well done to O'Rourke who righty said it shouldn't have been a penalty as there was charging, but Leister comment was disgraceful!!!

I used to respect Michael Lyster as a sports presenter but this year he has got so many open digs in at Tyrone and Ulster that he can no longer be deemed fair or impartial. I think Brolly was a bit annoyed when he mentioned the cynical dragging in the game and Lyster tried to ignore it totally.

Really? As I recall, Lyster defended Seán Cavanagh when Joe Brolly was foaming at the mouth with an ad hominem attack on him. The more likely explanation is that you're seeing things that aren't there. Again.

Lyster just was poor - ill informed and gave an opinion which is not his job

OgraAnDun, my thoughts exactly!

Lads, there will always be cynical acts in games, and there always has been. The difference is when a team goes out and do it en mass, like it is part of the gameplan. There was no cyncal gameplans today. Dublin done a few towards the end of the game to kill it off, but it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Ulsterman - you've been trolling every thread today about an anti-Ulster bias from everybody involved in GAA - now it's RTE' turn. Give it a break - you're doing nothing for Ulster GAA!

mayotyroneman, guys have been taken out since the beginning of the gaa, it doesnt take a team plan for a fella to do that. You are saying kerry were pulling guys down throughout the second half, well how in the name of god did the rack up that kind of a score if this was going on? It was a great game of ball, where people tried to play football first, and maybe the odd foul when that didnt come off - if every one did that we would be better off

Ulsterman is rightly correct Spillane was at it at half time talking about defensive negative football of the last ten years a dig at Ulster DOMINANCE through those 10 years also he could resist in talking about Tyrone 24 foot passes of sunday this years Championship will probably go down as one of the most exciting but it will all go down as the year RTE and its flagship programme lost the run of themselves still Tyrone managed to get a minor team to the final again this year so wee must be doing something right UP TYRONE ! LOVE ULSTER .......... and Hon the Dub's

Commentary and analysis was poor alright, especially on the Sunday Game last night. Very disappointed in Kerry's ultra cynical fouling as well. Dublin were at it as well, but some of Kerry's tackles were very poor.

I agree with much of the posts criticizing the panel and their negativity towards Tyrone and Donegal but please Ulster dominance??????.Kerry have 36 All Irelands and in Tyrones great era still won more All irelands than the Ulstermen.
So it appears the myopia is a two way street.

Put ourselves or 4 or 5 other Ulster teams down in Munster and we will stroll into all Ireland quarter finals every year.Make that semi finals in the past.

tyrone were the team of the decade there is no argument there, there was poor defending last Sunday and so the hig score. there was indicipline, pulling and dragging and so the high score, there wasnt the hoo haa over the major fouls like there was over Cavanagh, although I believe that that was contrieved and the pannelists had a good laugh after it as the comments flew in

Dublin's defending was poor in the first half, as it was v kildare and Meath, these teams failed to build on their early dominance and Dublin overpowered them, will Dublin Catch Mayo if they are as sloppy in the first Half of the all Ireland...I doubt it!

I agree, the bias against Tyrone is obvious at this stage, as a non Tyrone person I didnt realise until recently how bad and obvious it is.
Shame on the GAA media.
