I was down there in late 80s. Tank Field! Moo moo I do remember that team from Mahon - wore maroon I think ? and played in field at bottom of Skehard Road, over looking the water. Nice spot! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 14/08/2013 12:55:07 1461331 Link 0 |
True Benny, but you don't need to join a big club to be an intercounty player but it does help. I reckon players like pat hegarty from tadhg mac carthaigh would have been playing all the time for cork if he was playing with a senior club. I think it was the 2004 county final he did wreck in at full forward playing for carbery against bishopstown. noel O'Donovan an emerging cork senior at the time wasn't able to handle him at all. Sean Levis another player that cut the standard from a junior b side in durras. These two players are a testament that good players can come from junior a and b sides. Flicking through the thread fairly quickly didn't notice anyone mentioning Mayfield, or Delaneys from Ballyvolane. Maybe I missed them but all anyone needs to do is to Google Cork GAA Clubs and you will get a full list of all Clubs. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 14/08/2013 15:49:41 1461506 Link 0 |
Did Roy Keane ever play for Mayfield? doubletree (Dublin) - Posts: 164 - 14/08/2013 17:25:44 1461574 Link 0 |
I think he says in his book that he gave hurling a try but it was not for him. It might have been in school. I really do not know. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 14/08/2013 19:08:41 1461628 Link 0 |
Keane wouldn't have survived as a hurler. Either skill wise, physically or in terms of sportsmanship. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 14/08/2013 19:21:30 1461634 Link 0 |

I don't think so. Pretty sure Irwin played for St Finbarrs, they would be his local club in Togher. He played u-16 for Cork too as far as I know dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 366 - 15/08/2013 08:36:19 1461736 Link 0 |

Who would Nemo's main football rival be in the City? There seems to be a great number of Hurling rivals in the City with Glen Rovers, Blackrock Na Piarsaigh, Bishopstown and St. Finnbarrs. Football seems a little less competitive, or perhaps i'm wrong. saulgael (Down) - Posts: 553 - 16/08/2013 13:42:30 1462564 Link 0 |
St. Finnbarr's and Bishopstown would be big rivals. Finnbarrs were runners up in 2009 and 2010. Bishopstown also have lost in a few resent finals. UCC are probably the biggest rival. St. Nicholas have also got a pround tradition as well - Munster Champions in 1967. CoraFinne87 (Clare) - Posts: 44 - 16/08/2013 14:06:17 1462580 Link 0 |
Eoin Cadogan's club Douglas are a bad outfit, but they are in the city I guess. Does Millstreet still have a club? My great uncle once played with them in the 60's. portavogielad (Down) - Posts: 446 - 16/08/2013 17:42:49 1462745 Link 0 |
