Ya, it is harder to kick a placed ball than a moving one...

Off the ground is easier.

Amazing no one has told the likes of Cillian O'Connor that kicking off the ground is far easier.

It could mean he could stop taking all day over those tricky tapover frees.

Anyone who says Cluxton must literally watch the sunday game twice or three times a year and that's it.

And whys that??? You must realise that Cluxton takes nearly all hios frees from the 45 and beyond. His conversion rate from that distance is the best ive seen

Cos he misses far too many to be considered the best there is, people seem to think he never misses ie people that watch highlights

We're talking about the best of the best here, before any tiresome accusations of criticism or dub-bashing.

I don't think Cluxton is an actual out and out free kick taker

So I'd agree with Breff in that we're talking about the best "Free kick taker" here

He's more of a 45 / long free taker... he has a different roll... Brogan would be more of a free taker

His performance against Cork in the AI 1/4 this year was almost faultless from the dead ball 45 / long frees

Did he get 5 out of 6 Or was 6 out of 7?

Anyway one of the best long distance displays of the year... up there with Morgan's performance in the league final for Tyrone

Two fantastic long distance performances

Cluxton proved his value in the AI final with his last kick and with Dublin's last point

Mayo missed two frees in the same spot.... Cluxton made it look easy.

As it stands... if I had to put my money on one player

Matched up against the best of the rest

I think I'd go with young Newman from Meath...

Think he'd edge a close run thing...

Cluxton is William Tell like alright. Don't think there is a more accurate placed ball kicker around and who can hit those distances. I can't think of a kicker who is accurate off the ground with both feet. Plenty from the hands as easier to execute with weaker foot but a player who can strike equally well off the ground with both feet would be a find.

Easier with your good foot. Off the ground is more difficult with your weaker foot as you have to rise the ball accurately. From the hand you don't gave to worry about rising the ball.

Daniel goulding is pretty good, but I'd love to see gooch's stats, I'd say he is one of the best.

Michael Murphy is exceptional. The amount of big scores at big times he has kicked is ridiculous, I remember one huge one from about 50 yards out of his hands against Kildare in extra time. Superb kick.

Mike Meehan is as good a man with a dead ball as I've seen.Eoin Kelly of Tipp in hurling.

On the average you will mis-hit a moving target more often than a static one, regardless of what foot you are using. That is just simple probability. The above makes no sense at all.
If a particular individual cannot rise a ball with his weak foot then that is down to his specific technique, or lack of it. What foot you are using makes no difference.

Mark Lynch - Derry, gave an exhibition of free taking against Cavan this summer. David Kelly Sligo is very good, Emlyn Mulligan, Daniel Goulding,
Michael Neman, Michael Meehan, Michael Murphy, MJ Tierney.

Hard to pick one.

How come everyone doesn't just kick their frees off the ground seeing as it's just simple probability that it's easier than off the ground?

Why dont you ask them mesamis?
My guess would be it is down to what they personally feel more comfortable with. Just like some people choose to solo twice instead of hopping and soloing, yet hopping is easier to execute. Ask them about that one also while you are at it...
