There are about 5 hurling exclusive clubs in Meath like Kildalkey, Kilmessan, Kiltale, Drumree. Whicc=h are all around Trim the home of Meath hurling. Many other clubs around the south of Meath are duel clubs such as Longwood, Dunboyne Ashbourne etc. There are also 2 in Navan: Wolfe tones and o' mahony's who are duel clubs. Kells and Moyloch have hurling teams I think also. Meathman248 (Meath) - Posts: 14 - 06/08/2013 16:12:50 1454463 Link 0 |

Hurling in Antrim originates from Shinty as it was more common for the Glens folk to travel to and from Scotland (17 miles away by boat)than it was for them to travel inland to towns such as Ballymena. Brian_Coyote (Antrim) - Posts: 346 - 06/08/2013 16:29:49 1454491 Link 0 |

Hurling in Roscommon is played around the villages of Taughmaconnell ( Padraig Pearses), Four Roads ( Four Roads), Athleague ( Athleague and Tremane ), Knockcroghery (St. Dominics ), Donamon (Oran) and Roscommon town ( Roscommon Gaels ). You can drive from one club to the next without leaving hurling country and the area is located in the Southern part of the county mainly on the western side bordering Galway. The land is generally very good in this part of the county ( stone walls/green fields ). The purest hurling areas would be Four Roads and Athleague where hurling is clearly the number one sport. All other areas would be 50:50 with football. Four Roads, Athleague and Roscommon Gaels have 100 year + histories. facethepuckout (Roscommon) - Posts: 232 - 06/08/2013 21:18:54 1454871 Link 0 |
