Brend all messing aside, whats your view on the way Counties close out games like that?

Liam, I've just reworded your question to how I believe it should read. The way this has been raised now is quite galling actually, like its just suddenly appeared from nowhere. Cast you mind back to 2008, Tyrone V Mayo qualifier, a pretty awful game it must be said, I remember Tyrone 'closing out' that game too to just hang on, not a word was said at the time, not by the pundits, the press, Mayo supporters, nothing. Look, I'm not going to lie, its not pretty, could be said it goes against the spirit of the game BUT it happens, and its up to the GAA to deal with it on a fair and CONSISTENT basis, thats the key word.

CaisleanCnucha- If a player trips another player by accident it is a free regardless of if he meant it or not..
I'm just in shock listening to all the Meath fans complain about Tyrone fouling late on.
Are people seriously saying that if Meath were 2 up and Sean Cavangh was heading straight for goal they wouldn't pull him down.
Can people just get real please? Every county does it including my own. Tyrone were the better team so lets move on.

The diving alegation aside Cavanaghs 2 rugby tackles should have been enough to see him sent from the field. Shefflin went for a lot less. Whelans suggestion on Sunday game was very good I thought. When a foul of a cynical nature is committed out the field like that a free from the 21 straight in front should be awarded. You would soon see an end to this type of fouling when it costs teams games not rewards them with a win.

In fairness ye cant blame Tyrone. If you let the man through then your seen as naive and if you dont then your a cheat! Your damned if you do and damned if you dont.

The only thing that I have an issue with Tyrone is who easy their forwards go down to get a free. Mark Donnelly is an expert at falling to the ground and their are a few other lads at it.

Anyway S. Cavanagh is one of the best of his generation and is credit to himself and Tyrone football.

Have a look at ur own Michael Murphy (one particular example v Monaghn wen he got turned over and fell down holding his face) wen it comes to going down easy. Ryan Bradley not too bad at it either. Ur starting to sound like Jimmy, only seein wat suits u

Absolutely, frightening at times and kept it going. Unstoppable. I havent seen an individual display like that in years.

Bit ironic here from a lot of people. I'd say they'd be willing their team to do the same if they were in that position. Meath didn't help themselves by taking the ball into tackles an not using it intelligently. I read on a thread last week from a Derry supporter bemoaning that they didn't foul Cavan in the build up to Cavan's equaliser at the end of normal time. In fairness to Cavan they moved the ball well and quickly and really didn't give Derry too much of an opportunity to foul. I also don't think Meath can argue with 17 scores to 11, Tyrone were the better team imo and to be honest Meath wouldn't have deserved it if they had scored in the final seconds.

As a neutral its not nice to watch and I've a horse as high as the rest of yis BUT....

.....if there are a couple of points in Dublins favour towards the end of the Cork game and they are running at our midfield/half backs I'll be bursting a vein screaming at the lads to bring down the Cork forwards.

You win games doing what you have to do.

By the way, no one should be jumping on the Tyrone bandwagon. They deserve to be where they are. You don't have to like it, you just have to beat them. I'm not the biggest fan of Tyrone but I respect them and have always had good craic with their fans (despite the language barrier)

It's not up to Tyrone to play any differently. Under the current laws of the game it's a viable means of winning matches. I would be ashamed if my own county didn't do the same in order to close out a game if necessary.

Sean cavanagh is the greatest player Tyrone have ever produced and was excellent again on Saturday.

1445634 Super player, legend in his own time

But, Tyrones tactics, and he was guilty, in the last 10 minutes were disgraceful. Same as Mayo against us last year. SON was at it aswell, and of course Conor Gormley was at it.

And us against Laois last year too.

Here's where the GAA should borrow from basketball by bringing in a version of the team foul count.

Anything above a certain threshold (say 15 fouls) and it automatically results in a free from the 21. You'd need to exclude technical free kicks (2 hops, square ball etc) at the start anyway - until some clever manager finds a way to waste time through a series of ball fouls - like lying on it for 20 seconds.

The ref would need help in applying this to the team that the foul was committed against. Playing an advantage for a player fouled on their way through on goal is very different to one where a player is pulled down going for a high ball around his own square.
