Well done Monaghan!!

@offwithya - TV3 coverage is deplorable. Not only did they miss the presentation but Cooper cut off Dara after asking him what he thought about the Monaghan players he had played against. Very sloppy.

Congrats , i will be honest I didn't give Monaghan much of a chance , totally deserved , surprised in particular the ferocity at which you took Donegal on , the breaking from defence with speed and intent was a joy to watch , don,t think anyone will take you lightly , enjoy festivities .

I am absolutely delighted for Monaghan, what a day/year for the county! Ulster Minor, Senior & Ladies Football Champions 2013. Donegal were fantastic Champions, but Monaghan thoroughly deserved it today. They were outstanding!

@hurlingdub

I always start off in the hope that they might up their game but inevitably end up muting the preview/analysis before the game even begins. That's nothing to do with the ex-players but Cooper comes across as an extremely rude individual, shouts out his questions and then shouts down his panelists as they attempt to answer him by firing in another question. No bit of banter out of him at all either. This is compounded by the horrendous directing of the program which led to the break taking place when it did right after the game today! The match commentator today was excellent though...

this is not the thread for me to be going on a rant criticising tv3 though, its about Monaghan! well done to them on a fantastic achievement, that's three long droughts ended in three weeks (Dublin, Limerick hurlers the others) so long live the provincial championships!

Well done to Monaghan. Powerful performance.

So that is what happens when McFadden has an offday...
Also, I though the ref was quite good as regards not giving frees when guys went looking for them. Donegal do a lot of it and it was good to see that refs are getting wise to it.

Great performance from Monaghan.

Obviously a lot of talk will be on the likes of McFadden having an off day and Lacey not looking fully fit, which is unfortunate as it takes away from what was an emphatic team performance from Monaghan.

Managed to keep up an incredible level of intensity throughout, battled hard in the middle, tracked back and crowded them out in their back line and broke with both pace and power.

Deserving winners and great to see the likes of Colin Walshe pick up an Ulster medal after doing very well earlier in the year leading DIT to the Sigerson title.

Indeed offwithya. This could turn out to be one of the really great Summers of GAA. Love seeing teams like Monaghan getting something out of all their hard work and felt same about Donegal last year. I am Dub obviously but would not resent Mayo or Monaghan lifting Sam.

As long as we get Liam of course :-)

But as you said, this is about Monaghan and they were very impressive. Great to see Dick Clerkin making a vital contribution. Great player and nice chap (met him once in clones) and very good writer with the Examiner. So hats off Dick. Looking forward to reading the column :-

Fantastic performance by Monaghan who deserved the title with such an dominant display. Just shows how the Ulster Championship can be so competitive. I must admit I disregarded the fact that Monaghan have beaten Donegal in their last four championship matches and also the 1979 Ulster final but I was struct how this seemed to make Monaghan quietly confident.

Maith sibh, a mhuintir Mhuineacháin. Tuillte go maith agaibh. Those looking for two tier competitions could learn a lot from the belief, hard work, and competitiveness evident from you today.

Well done Monaghan,I was up there last week and they were quietly confident, that was one powerful performance, great fielders in midfield and full forward line terrific stuff and great to see the spoils going around and well done to their minors also.Donegal will no doubt bounce back and be strong contenders for sam.Mayo were dissapointing today and are hardly real contenders for AI on that performance,Dublin have also slid down and Kerry would now be my favourites for AI.

1437534 @markmywords 100% agree there! I'd be fairly p****d off if I was a Monaghan supporter watching on tv and didn't get to witness the scenes at the end, tv3 once again put their foot in it. Congrats Monaghan!!!!

Congratulations to Monaghan a fully deserved victory and congratulations to BBC for showing the match so I didn't have to endure that tripe on TV3 good God that studio looked so garish it was unreal, anyway more importantly Monaghan today showed us what belief, passion, hard work and a suitable game plan can achieve, a division 3 team taking the all ireland champions and a division 1 team apart, Mr Spillane take note.

Very true Gatekeeper, they are the best in Ulster and well deserved. It's up to us (2nd Best) and yourselves (4th/5th best) to beat them next year. :D

A chastened & crestfallen MuckrossHead just in the door.

Heartiest congratulations to Monaghan on a well deserved victory. They did to Donegal what Donegal did to others last year & defended like tigers. The joy & happiness on their supporters faces after a long wait for Uster honours reminded me of how we felt two years ago & as I heard someone say on the radio "there will be no diesel washed in Monaghan for a week"

Have the game taped but thanks to people texting me the surprise result of the day the surprise is already gone. But before I press play, and not taking anything away from Monaghans victory, but was it a case that they simply dumped players back and hit Donegal on the counter? You need to be one super fit team to beat Donegal at their own game and you need your forwards to take their chances.
Be interesting to read some of the replies while I watch this
Ps Delighted I recorded it on BBC and not TV3, by the sound of things their coverage was muck again

Down showed a few weeks ago that Donegalwere there forthe taking, they justlackedthe players to take advantage. Monaghan certainly had the players, but i couldn't see Donegal playing as poorly again. Alas Monaghan were superb and got tore into Donegal from the first minute. They were well deserving winners and it great to see players like Owen Lennon, Darren Hughes and Paul Finlay win an Ulster medal

Monaghan v Cavan QF anyone? :-)
