Common sense has prevailed however I wonder what the refs thoughts are on this. Faithfull (Offaly) - Posts: 573 - 20/07/2013 15:07:23 1436433 Link 0 |
Disgraceful decision undermines the refs original decision and I'm no big fan of refs but if their own makes them look like tools? kildarecat22 (Kildare) - Posts: 257 - 20/07/2013 15:49:15 1436454 Link 0 |

Always gonna happen. It was a yellow card at most. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13816 - 20/07/2013 16:11:29 1436476 Link 0 |
Agree with kildarecat. "Fire away lads, hurls down on the man's head. Sure it's part of what we are." hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 20/07/2013 17:23:04 1436508 Link 0 |

If it was the Limerick player that got red it would not be recinded wfkerry (USA) - Posts: 933 - 20/07/2013 17:34:48 1436522 Link 0 |
joncarter he brought the stick down on a man's head. Red card straight away. And if he didn't know what he was doing then he should not be out there in the first place. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 20/07/2013 17:43:43 1436530 Link 0 |
So if the referee was to make an absolutely ridiculous decision, lets say he was to send a player off for something that wasn't even a foul, you would still say - "It makes a mockery of the ref, the decision should stand". CaisleanCnucha (Dublin) - Posts: 1379 - 20/07/2013 17:50:28 1436535 Link 0 |
Even the best refs make mistakes hurlingdub. Correcting these mistakes is an integral part of a fair disciplinary process. I don't think any less of James Mcgrath now that his (perfectly honest) mistake has been corrected. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 20/07/2013 17:54:40 1436538 Link 0 |
Eh, bringing your hurl down on an opposing player's head is a foul. Last time I checked anyway. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 20/07/2013 18:07:00 1436543 Link 0 |
I never said it wasn't a foul, it was a foul, but if a ref gave a red card for something that wasn't even a foul would you still stick with the decision? It doesn't mock the ref, it simply helps them, nobody can make the right decision 100% of the time. CaisleanCnucha (Dublin) - Posts: 1379 - 20/07/2013 18:16:05 1436551 Link 0 |
I'm with hurlingdub on this one.... Lifford Gael (Donegal) - Posts: 1925 - 20/07/2013 18:23:07 1436552 Link 0 |
From talking to a lad who has close connections with panel, Horgan said it was purely accidental, he lost the flight of the ball in the sun. Limerick lad was on to him and totally accepted it was accidental and said he hoped red card would be rescinded. If the player who got the belt said that then its good enough for me. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 20/07/2013 18:30:53 1436557 Link 0 |
Correct decision. No malice whatsoever, not Hoggy's style. Biggest begrudgers to having this travesty overturned, come from hurling strongholds like Donegal, Kildare and wait for it.... The USA (the World's policeman). AwbegRover (Cork) - Posts: 136 - 20/07/2013 18:55:39 1436576 Link 0 |
I am glad he can play Sunday week let's hope cork can go on and win now. oll (Limerick) - Posts: 693 - 20/07/2013 19:12:41 1436594 Link 0 |
At the time it looked bad because O'Brien went down. But at the same time the of the contact on the back of the head the sliotar hit him on the front of the head. Fortunately he was OK. I agree that it should not be a red. mikeyjoe (USA) - Posts: 415 - 20/07/2013 19:26:00 1436604 Link 0 |
If you look at the clip, it is obvious both players were affected by the sun, one got hit in the head by the sliotar, the other failed to make ball contact and accidentally hit his opponent. jerryp (Cork) - Posts: 104 - 20/07/2013 19:43:17 1436631 Link 0 |
