Would agree with Sheehan, don't think there is a sweeter striker of the ball in the game, Cluxton also very good from free's , rarely misses and as cool as ice

Michael Murphy is close to flawless within 60 yards these days!

I was just about to make a thread about this, I reckon Daniel Goulding is the unsung hero of free takers, he is incredible from the ground. Sheehan and Cluxton deserve mentions, I probably would've had Stevo #1 but he has been flaky this season so far.

Paddy Cunningham is fairly lethal from the hands with the left boot. Sheehan probably the best with the right boot.

Maurice Fitzgerald was the best kicker of a ball I've ever seen. Capable of kicking points from distance off the ground with both feet. Such a lovely effortless style too.

This simply isn't true unfortunately

Breffni I reckon you are judging him mainly on this season and Sunday in particular to be fair, where he missed about half his kicks but was also limping for parts of the game. Stevo is incredible from the ground and as cool as ice.

Breff is right and wrong!
Cluxton hs missed many frees in his time
but you know what, i have never seen him miss a big one
any time the free really matters, he nails it.
Every time.

well said, when it matters he stands up , a key attribute for a good freetaker

Surprised O'Connor hasnt been mentioned, he is as good as any.

Sheehan is the best though

Brian Sheehan for me. Majestic off the deck.

Hopefully our own Cillian O'Connor can continue his progression to being a top class free taker.

Has to be on his right side though. Can't score from the left.

He missed a good few when he started taking them as well. Not saying he's a bad freetaker and agree he kicks them under pressure, just pointing out that the statement "rarely misses" in the context of the best freetakers of all time doesn't bear scrutiny
