Kerry v Cork

kerry win despite refs best effort, if that free was given? 1 less point and maybe 1 for kerry, and that would have slowed down cork's chance of coming back

Pride salvaged in 2nd half but we still lost the game. It makes the first half more annoying then ever. At least in 2nd half we got stuck in and showed a bit of spirit. 1st half we stood off them and left them do what they pleased. I dont think Dublin or Donegal will lose too much sleep tonight worrying about a Munster threat.

Hard to know what to make of either team after that. Kerry were fantatic in the first half but very poor in the second half while Cork's finisg would make you question Counihan's selection. Over the 70 minutes though improvement will be needed from both.

Cork looking for a goal in last two minutes and sheehan kicks the 45 over the bar!!?he must not be very good at maths..poor decision especially since cork won every high ball in the square second half..

Well done to both Kerry and Cork, I can't wait to hear JamesH view im sure it will be negative. Both Kerry and Cork have a lot to do you could tell Kerry were 5 weeks without a game towards the end. Onwards and upwards.

The Kerry forward line is still definitely one of the best in the country, they look good at MF as well especially Maher who has been fantastic lately. I still think the defence is shaky and can be got at as the 2nd half showed. O Donohue was outstanding and the Gooch was fantastic at 11 again.
I think Cork need a change in management unless they can turn this around and have a big year. Playing Canty as MF was ridiculous but when you see O'Connor and O'Neill on the bench you have to wonder what Counihan was thinking, Sheehan should have started as well. I still think this Cork side can have a good run though, if you look at the 15 Cork ended with they were very strong, Counihan needs to sort out his starting 15 though, its fair enough keeping some players in reserve but when you have 3 or 4 players who should be starting that are on the bench you'd have to wonder.

Have to say the referee is indeed going to be a major talking point after this game, very poor decisions against both teams the standout one being calling a foul against Gooch after a textbook piece of defending, it's about time those in charge of refereeing acknowledge these errors in public instead of going on the defensive the whole time. Brilliant pieces of football like those performed by Gooch should not be wrongly punished by such poor decisions

If Kerry had kept up the intensity in the second half , ya i would say they are serious contenders. They just ran out of steam especially the older legs . Is that goin to get them through the all - ireland series. Think they will need 70 minutes, i have me doubts.

Yeah, well assuming they get there Cork will now probably be playing Dublin, Mayo or Donegal in the quarter final. Cork will need get a good bounce in their qualifier game to lift it for that. Not sure Fitzmaurice has got rid of the flaws that held Kerry back in last couple of years but definitely capable of beating anybody on their day.

I am not even from Cork and I am seriously pizzed off with that team under Counihan.Consistently when they play ponderous football like in the first half today they look very mediocre and yet whenever they play direct football they are very dangerous and look like a very good team. Will COunihan ever cop on and tell them to polay direct football from teh start.

Anyone who thought it was over at half-time, or even after 50 minutes, clearly has not studied the history of Corcaigh-Ciarraí since 2008. All 3 games that year, and in the 2011 Munster final, had an identical pattern, save Corcaigh won in 2008 in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Some terrible shooting from our crowd, Tomás Ó Sé came up to kick his last glorious wide at a crucial stage from a stupid position but no way would he pass. Our full back line did not enjoy that high ball; hopefully Corcaigh never learn, sack Counihan and continue with 95 lateral hand passes in a row!
One thing that astonishes me is the leaving of Sheehan on the bench. The dummy team thing is just predictable at this stage; as if anyone in their right minds would believe that Aidan Walsh wouldn't start.
To me neither team are up to the Dubs's pace but hard to tell in the context.

Don't think Kerry could complain about the referee. Cork not awarded a penalty for a trip and Galvin probably should have been sent off for a punch.

always good to beat cork, even if we were hanging on in the end. think i saw enough today to know that neither kerry, nor cork, will life Sam this year. a younger team with legs will give kerry problems at some point, and cork still don't have the scoring power on a consistent basis to win out tight matches.

as has been said here by a few others, donegal and dublin won't lose much sleep over either after erratic displays from both. i know it was hot, but the traits displayed today by both teams have been seen in the last couple of years as well.

still though, like i said, good to win.

Paul Galvin punching Noel O'Leary.

Wonder how long it will take for a thread to be set up about that ?

I still reckon the other top sides would be quite happy to avoid the Munster's two best sides. This makes it interesting now though in terms of how the All Ireland series will balance out. Like Cork will clearly be the side most Qualifier round 3 winners will want to avoid in round 4.

Congrats to Kerry, great first-half but you have to agree Cork stood off the ball. Fair play to Cork
in second half, and Kerrys lack of effort, but they went forward with doing the simple things of
high balls into the square. Had Hurley pulled off the goal, great save, I would'nt be dancing around the garden for
what was overall one of the must inept displays of Cork in a Munster Final. IMO Counihan has to go, sooner the
better. There is a good panel but he cant pick a team, looks lost on the sideline and has kept on to
a few who are over the hill...starting with Canty..Ref was poor to both sides, early booking of Kerrigan for
nothing set the trend. I would suggest it is now time Cork looked for an outside manager, maybe from
Ulster who can get players to move and stop this "hands on the hips" attitude.
