Meath v Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The irony here is something that stands out. As a Cavan man you have no right to criticize. The atmosphere in the buildup to this match is a positive one for us and it's a match where we are more than capable of outscoring Wexford by a comfortable margin. I wouldn't put it beyond us to limit Wexford to single scores as their forwards are vastly over rated in the media.

Couldn't agree more. Terribly overrated it's not like they have constantly been among the highest scorers in Leinster for the last 5 years. They should all stick to hurling. "Burst every ball in ye county" as the saying goes.

Good betting on this game with Meath favourites at best price 4/5. Wexford opened at 15/8 which i backed and now are top priced at 13/8. I think Wexford could take them by 2/3 points but any piece of luck or good or bad fortune could tip the balance in one teams favour.

Personally speaking I would expect Wexford to win this game on Sunday week. I believe that they are an underrated team who more than most in Leinster have pushed Dublin over the last few years. In 2010 they should have beaten them in the Quarter Final while last year if Brosnan's radar was working the would have beaten them. In Anthony Masterson they have a good goalkeeper, Molloy is a very good full back, Adrian Flynn is an excellent attacking wing back, they have a solid midfield, Redmond Barry, Ciaran Lyng, PJ Banville and Ben Brosnan are as good in attack as anything we have.

Meath have not impressed me much this year and effectively this is largely a new team between the lads blooded last year and the new lads under the current management. If we reach the Leinster Final this year then in my opinion it will be a bonus for us. I would hope that in two years time when these players have developed that we will be in a position to be challenging for Leinster but as of now I don't think we are at that stage. For that to happen I believe we need to be at the top end of Division 2 or having been promoted to Division 1.

Ahh will yis give upto up. Meath are favs with bookies (only just though) but we haven't beat wex in champ for near on 20 years, we are very much building a complete new team, last year and this, wex are the more settled side and championship hardened team with the exception of a few lads meath will field a team made up of mostly 23s and under. Now the worry for wexford thay in that bracket /group. You have the likes of biggy, wallace, Newman etc.
I have said wex are favs by majority (not bookie's) and rightly so. But ive also said meath will win in a close high scoring free flowing game.
Hon the royal.

Agree that Meath will win but I don't see it being a high scoring free flowing game at all.

0-13 to 0-10

but the shame there would be to the once mighty meath to loose [ again] to wexfod a county they would have looked down on for years in fact would not play a practice more than once in past [ were not good enough in meaths eyes]

Ah lads I think we should loss the whole little county thing... Very few from Meath will be looking past us and that is a credit to how far we have come from the doldrums.. They will be confident in their team to win as I am confident in our lads to win... If we utilise banvilles pace and if Holmes does what he did against Louth same with Quinlivan we are in with a big chance.

I taught the people's final would be Meath v Dublin with te whole history and epic sagas they hve played out

What I mean is wexcore, most people would dislike both Dublin and Meath and would love to see them beaten

I do indeed realdub. The royals remind me of my wife. You cant live with them and you cant live without them. The Dubs are the best crac. Nothing beats playing the Dubs in Croker. I like to see Kildare do well after my beloved Louth.

Looking past this game.. as in recent years there has been; Dublin v Meath finals and Dublin v Wexford finals. I would that whoever win the game does a good job in the final.

Wexford should have beaten Dublin a few years ago, but also they have taken bad beatings from them too

And will Dublin be in the Final?? Laughable to think otherwise.

I hope this is a cracker of a game and that out buddy Maurice Deegan ; Disallower of Meath Goals doesnt ruin it for either side

Fair play Ollie.
Ill repeat again, no one in meath is looking beyond wexford, and as much as the few (very much minority) try to say different its not going to happen.
Now i can understand why some would like us too, as if meath totally focusses on wex its harder for them to get a result.
but win loose or draw no one on team, management or supporters are looking further, we are totally focused on yous.
there will be no excuses.

Ollie I know you like shouting for the underdog and I know Meath are slight favs with PP but in reality Meath are the underdog. This game is a big turning point for us. We lose to Wexford and we may never beat them. If we beat them that's the Wexford monkey off our back and a 3rd Leinster final in 4 years. Real progress for this team still in transition.

I'd prefer if Kildare beat Dublin just to guarantee a new winner and have the Dubs play 3 games in the back door. Would add to the championship having them sent down the country. Maybe to Omagh or Clones and play Tyrone. I'd probably prefer to beat Dublin in the final or see Wexford beat them however I just can't see it happening. A Kildare/Wexford final would be perfect.

It would have so much more hype than a Dublin v Meath/Wexford final. People around the country are just sick of seeing Dublin win it. So for the sake of the GAA please Kildare beat the Dubs! I'm pretty sure if Dublin had only won say 3 Leinsters in the last 8 years people wouldn't be calling to end the provincial championships. Ulster and Leinster used to be great but the last few years it's just been Ulster.

So to sum up my post in 3 words: Come On Kildare!

Royaldunne you have said it quite a few times that Meath WILL get to the Leinster final.

Are you not a Meath supporter and was this not only looking beyond your q final game against Wicklow but looking beyond a semi final game also ?.

It's very possible you are having second thoughts now after seeing how Meath played against Wicklow but somehow I get the impression you are just being a cute hoor.

Be honest here and admit that you are looking forward to another Leinster final game with Dublin?.

Snapper the goal at beginning of year was promotion and leinster final. That has not changed. But if you look beyond any team, you are likely to get caught out. They are not polar opposite, the big goal and achieving same by focusing on one game at a time. If anything the performance by Kevin Reilly, Graham Reilly and wallace only increased my optimism, not diminish it.
I believe we will reach leinster final by solely concentrating on wexford. Simple.

My reasons are quite simple and biased as to why id like kildare to beat Dublin. Is that meath would beat kildare, IF we reached final and thats a big if. But to hell with it. I want another leinster, so come on meath and kildare. :-)
