Meath v Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Meath have no reason to be looking past this game. If anything it would be more fitting for Wexford to be looking beyond Meath at their chances of a Leinster final since they played Division 2 this year and have a history of beating us in the championship. I'm very apprehensive but I believe if we break even in midfield and our forwards have a good day we'll see it out.

Meath are a step better than Wexford and should win by 5+.

The only change they need to make is the return of the 2 half backs who missed the WW game and a change at 14 where Bray seems to be out off form.

Look our focus is solely and completely on wexford.
there is a lot of talk about Graham Reilly and deservedly so, he is a outstanding player. And who has been telling you all this for the last 3 years??

Nervously excited about this, 2 evenly matched teams in Croke Park, this is proper championship. Both teams with a decent set of forwards. Think the porous nature of our defence might swing this in Wexfords favour, Wicklow managed to get through far too easily at times. Either way should be a good game. Hopefully Meath will send up a decent support, we all no who the Dubs and Kildare will be cheering for when they start coming in.

I think on our day we can beat anyone as most neutrals are aware, i think don't buy for a minute that we should beat Wexford with the players at our disposal, but we do have an ability to beat anyone on the day which will stand to us in a couple of weeks , i actually like this meath set-up and players/management/county board seem content which is something i haven't seen since the Boylan era, it was evident from Saturday when Wicklow scored 4 unanswered points and our ability to claw them back against the wind . All in all we have a decent squad i just hope there's no inconsistency which has been the case with all previous meath teams since the boylan days

Indeed conleth. You are absolutely correct. We are very much the underdogs in this. And many in wexford rightly think they just have to turn up.
but im hopeful that we may cause a shock. :-)

Wexford view will always be we can win as it should be with any team but I don't buy this wexford favourites thing... We were relegated Meath promoted both have won tough opening fixtures in opponents back yards so by that it's going to be a toss of a coin job.. I am confident that if we play to our potential get low fast ball into our forwards and banville has a good game as he usually does in Croker we will win but anything less then 100% for 70 minutes and we won't be reaching any Leinster final and rightly so.

I think Wexford really have to be favourites for this.

If they score anything similar to the 2-13 they got against Louth then that could/should be enough to win.

Wexford won 95%+ of the ball at mid field (and that includes dirty ball)against Louth yet Louth managed to raise a flag 16 times to their 15 times.

I feel if Louth had won just 10% of ball at midfield they'd have beaten Wexford for sure, however they didn't and Wexford came through on the day.

I wouldn't imagine Meath will be near as poor in and around the middle as Louth were so for that reason they'll certainly get a lot more opportunities to register scores in this game than Louth got in Drogheda.

I've read somewhere(think it was the Louth v Wexford thread)that Wexford are well capable of upping their game another couple of gears if needed so if that is the case then I'd fear for Meath in this fixture.

However my own views are that many of the Wexford players were out drunk on there feet when the final whistle blew in Drogheda so I can't see where the 2 gear improvement is going to come from at this stage, you'd imagine the fitness levels of their players would be very high for the start of the championship.

The outcome of the game could well boil down to whichever team gets the jammiest goal this time around, both counties have already benefited from this rub of the green in their games to date. Neither may have won if lady luck hadn't befriended them

I certainly don't envisage it being a classic, but I do see Wexford having the better of the early exchanges be leading at half time and then for Meath to come through in the second half.

wexford wont be favourites but i'm quietly confident.having said that, meath are a good team and this is about as much a 50/50 game as you'll get!

Really can't understand some of the stuff on here. Really don't see how Meath could be fancied. . . .I thought they were very lucky to get over Wicklow. . . .the only reason they did is because they had subs capable of kicking a point or 2. . . .I think it's potentially the best game of the season so far. . .2 excellent sets of forwards and I don't expect ther to be any more than a kick of a ball between them. Could even back a draw

Doylerwex you say there won't be anymore than a kick of a ball in it even saying it could be a draw but you don't see how Meath could be fancied.

Confusing !!!!!

im surprised that a lot of people fancy wexford to win. I thought we played well enough against Wicklow and I think this season theres positives that wernt there last year. everyone said before that our forwards are too slow but now with Wallace, newman and bray in there they have added a lot of pace, I think we seem very fit this year and were playing with more intensity.

@doylerwex. You are very correct no one could fancy meath winning. Sure your players don't even have to train for this game, solely concentrate on dub /kildare.
just one thing though!! A couple of subs came on and scored thats reason why we won, g think ypu need to look at game again.
anyway dont worry all wexford have to do is turn up :-)
