Jack O'Shea comments on Ciaran Kilkenny

I think people need to wait and see if he actually did say this or if it was taken out of context. However if he did say this it is bad form. It is not like Jacko to come out and say this but obviously saomething was said.

Id like to see what he actually said and in what context. This could be a bit of media spin. O'Shea doesnt strike me as that type at all.

The lad handled it well though, fair play to him.

Reading between the lines, I think Ciaran himself is doubtful of the accuracy of Jacks comments. The fact that he'd like to hear from Jacko personally makes me think that way. Clever ploy

A lot of former greats just aren't cut out to be pundits.

I can't believe he said that about a 19 year old player starting out in the game Waynol, give the kid a chance FFs Jacko. I'll just have to calm down and think happy thoughts (Anna Geary)

_______

To be fair though mate it could be the OTT media. I don't think Jacko would have had said those exact words in a very condescending way.

I'd say he could have urged caution and maybe said he was still junior footballer in terms of his age and not to expect too much that he still has a lot of improving to do etc, And the media automatically saw a chance to spin it around.

I haven't seen any quotes from O'Shea yet. So I (like Ciaran himself) take it with a pinch of salt.

Exactly pal

I'd be abit sceptacle myself as I have not seen any quotes anywhere. Maybe i'd change my opinion if I saw the article he supposedly said these things in.

Jack O'Shea is the greatest midfielder of all time, he can say what he thinks. Ciaran Kilkenny is a rookie, a smart lad with a lot of potential, he may look like he's slow to get away from defenders but hes comfortable enough on the ball to slow the game down.

If he can use such criticism as motivation he will do well.

I actually do think expectations have been a bit high for CK, but this personal attack from O Shea is ridiculous and unwarranted. Who cares if he plays at Junior level for club? (intermediate as of next season) Paul Galvin plays intermediate club football, lets go and label him an 'intermediate player' then. To criticise him game like that is just out of hand for a level headed, calm 19 year old footballer.

For anyone who hasn't read it yet : "I have doubts about him," said Jacko. "I saw every league match he played and can safely say he got blocked down about 20 times. He's a junior footballer. He's static when he gets on the ball. He's taking too long to get away from defenders."

Exactly , context is everything , CK has only played junior football with his club until this season were they ply their trade in Div 3 , and if Im not mistaken are in the intermediate draw for championship FACT , however again CONTEXT was he referring to ABILTY ? ? if he was its out of order and IMO incorrect as CK regardless of what division he plays in is top drawer , but what Jack was saying context is everything , devil is in the detail , would like to have seen first hand or read what it was Jack has been quoted on , is it journalistic nonsense or are quotes attributed correct ? Only Jack can clarify
Top marks to CK response class

He's head and shoulders above any player coming through the Kerry ranks at the moment, which is something O'Shea should probably concern himself more with.

Cant understand Jack's comments. Sure was'nt Jack near condemned to the scrapheap of promising footballers as an 18 year old himself. Kilkenny is a brilliant all round sportsman... Hurling Soccer Football and i hear he's a shark at other sports too like Snooker. Funny those Bookie people who actually know know more than Jack are making Ciaran favourite to win Young Player of the Year 2013. Cant believe Jack would say that.......

I like Jack o Shea, i am very surprised if he said what is reported, its possible that words were twisted on account of Ck clubs status.
Ciaran Kilkenny is only 19 , hes given a very intelligent response and fairplay to him. though hes really only starting out on a senior career and having to defend himself already is a bit much, jaysus young lads on 40,000 at week in premiership don't get that grief.
Think we wait and see what jack said before condemning the man.

Kilkennys response was a true indication of how professional the Dublin set up is. Nothing or no one will stop them winning the All Ireland this year.IMO

I think a lot of Dublin fans here have shown a bit of class aswell as Ciaran himself

Most Dubs are waiting to see if this was actually said and the context in which his comments where used before condemning Jack O'Shea. Fair play lads.

________

Well if a 19 year old is able to handle himself to that standard

It's a bit of an eye openeror men with years on him...

He sets a great example for young Dubs

Did he say he was a junior footballer based on his talent or based on his club before this season?
