Mayo - no more Mr. Nice Guys

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I am under no illusions about Donegal, they played the nice boy for years & got slaughtered for their trouble. Everyone liked us, but being liked doesn't butter parsnips. They now play a percentage game which means doing whatever it takes to get the job done. There are parts of it I don't like, I have said as much before, but it is up to the authorities to police the game not JMcG.

I never said JMcG is responsible for policing anything, I pointed out its existance in their game. You took issue with this so obviously, the assumption is that you dont believe it exists. Now you are in a roundabout way acknowledging it does.

To say that if Lacey had been bigger he wouldn't have landed so badly is but one example.

Again, this is half the point, I explained that, twice. You choose to take it out of context is an underhanded way. You are being distinctly unfair here.
Also, as for 'casually air-brushing', have you once gone into the details of the donegal tactic of eye-gouging? You are happy to paper over it with the broad assessment of 'not being happy with some things'. Can we all do that? You are far more guilty of this than I ever could be.

dgl2012, do yourself a favour and read the thread, or at least the entire post you are quoting. At the very least, the single line directly above the one you take umbrage with... It is like something you would see in a carry-on sketch...

The truth in any football match at any level is that every player needs a ruthless streak if you are to be successful. People harp on about the great skilful players from the past but even those like Peter Canavan, Martin Mc Hugh, Mickey Linden wouldn't shy away from giving you a box on the head if deserved. Ruthless and a killer instinct are whats required in the head to win.
On the topic at hand, as this seems to have gone into a downhill slagging match between a few teams, Mayo have got more ruthless, Donegal too and a few more teams will follow suit. For years these teams played lovely football and on any day could destroy you but on mist days didn't and especially when it mattered. I have no problem in saying that Donegal push the limits on rule breaking and so will the other counties that have any ambition on SAM 2013. Its up to the officials to enforce the rules and I hope this does get done in a consistent basis.
I have no problem with Mayo being the no more mister nice guys and wish them well on their quest for SAM.

Master you would twist anything!! I have never denied the cynical side of Donegal's game & so have never taken issue with it. What I took issue with were statements like "Donegal fouling everything that moved". There is nothing "roundabout" in my position.

Again Master, this is you all over. If you don't like the way some one presents their argument they are liars or underhand or unfair wheras you of course are pure as the driven snow & would never look at an argument through green & red tinted glasses.

Again more makey uppy stuff. Where is there evedince of a Donegal "tactic" of gouging. You take one incident over which there was no complaint or injury & turn it into a "tactic". That is not what I was referring to at all. I don't like the encroaching by the sideline or time wasting, I don't think they need to do it & I would be much happier to see them do without it. Could you say the same for some of the assaults committed by Mayo last September?

If you dont deny it then why have you taken issue with me pointing out that it existed and had a part to play in last years AI win? Surely if you accept that it existed then that is only reasonable? What you are saying doesnt add up.

Hang on a minute, I dont like the way you are presenting your argument, because your arguement is based on misrepresenting something I said. What am I supposed to do, grin and bear it? What you are suggesting is not what I was saying, if you had taken the entire point, and not the sentece that suited you then this would be clear. You chose to take the single sentence though, and represent it in a different way. That is what I find unfair.

Two incidents actually, and that is only against ourselves. This is something they are doing, and it should be punished severly, it is a very dangerous act. Also, as for one incident, people said mayo had a plan to take mchugh out of the final based on one incident, did they not?

I would much rather mayo practiced their fouling more, were more cynical about it, maybe feigned injury after getting tripped, etc. If we matched other teams in the cynical stakes we might see the a return to winning matches being about football.
One thing I would like to see is a crackdown on managers having leading media outlets publish and speak their propaganda. It brings the game into disrepute.

Master, your paranoia knows no bounds & I have more to be doing than feeding it. I have bantered & debated with the best here Hill16, Clondalkin, Gatekeeper etc etc. They are all proud of their county & well able to stand up for their point of view but unlike you they have a sense of balance, fairplay & most of all humour.
I simply can't fathom what drives you & quite frankly I can't be bothered any more. Debate & banter are what this site is all about, we post on it for entertainment's sake but with you the rules are different & I for one am not interested in playing.
