Giles was over rated but decent enough. McDonald the better of the two so he gets my vote.

I don't think a Meath fan hasn't voted for Giles yet, the idea suggested where you can't vote for your own county man would've been good but its a bit late now. I'll buck the trend and pick Matt Connor.

I notice you didnt have any gripe when no Tyrone fan didnt vote for anyone bar Canavan for 14? Or when no Dub voted for anyone bar Cluxton for 1? Meath people will have watched a hell of a lot more of Giles than McDonald and he's very highly regarded in the county, so its only natural that Meath posters will vote for him.

And as for bucking the trend, theres a vote between 2 players, yet you vote for someone who isnt even being considered for the position? Whats that about?

Matt Connor (Offaly) but if we're going to vote with the two others it would have to be Ciaran McDonnell (Mayo)

Its a re-vote for no. 11, not a vote between 2 players. And what you've said proved my point exactly - you've seen way more of Giles than non - Meath people, just like Mayo people have seen the most of McDonald, therefore they shouldn't vote for them because there will be a certain bias towards them. And the difference between Canavan/Cluxton and Giles is that Canavan and Cluxton were clear winners, Giles and McDonald are extremely close so it matters more.

Seriously mate, the vote is between Giles & McDonald and you vote for a completley different player that isnt even being considered, and when its pointed out to you ya still do it. Strange one.

I've only had a quick skim over the thread but will somebody please tell me for the sake of my faith in humanity that footballer like McDonald and Trevor Giles weren't chosen over the greatest player of all time, Sean Purcell. Maybe i'm missing something and it's a team for the last 40 years or something?

Trevor Giles: Pulled the strings in two Senior All Ireland winning teams, the second the year after he did his cruciate ligament. The man could put a ball on a six pence and while less talented than McDonald was the more consistent. McDonald was a genius but wasn't as accurate n fromt of the posts on a consistent basis.

Oh My God. Mick O'Connell has been chosen so it is actually the greatest team of all time?? Is someone going to pinch me or am I still drunk? The posters of Hogan Stand are choosing trevor fricking giles over the Sean Purcell?

This forum has been called a lot of things down through the years, but if its posters are going to forget about the greatest footballer of all time along with Mick O'Connell, and insult his name by putting footballers like Giles or McDonald over him, then we really have reached a new low.

Once again, trevor Giles over Sean Purcell. I don't want to live in this world anymore...

Without a doubt Trevor Giles for the No 11 shirt

Consistently brilliant, and has the medals and awards to prove it

I'll opt for Giles. My memory might be tricking me but McDonald could be frustrating to watch at times.

Ciarán MacDonald for me.

Giles was a good player but I always felt that he was over rated by Meath fans and the public in general.

Meath posters being very parochial so I expect him to triumph in this.

Giles.

Done everything a 40 yard man is supposed to do and more. Great vision.
