Competition: choose the greatest football team ever

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I have the utmost respect for Bernard Brogan, I think he is the marquee forward in Gaelic Football today. He's a great player but, as MesAmis rightly pointed out, he isn't even the best player in his family. For the record I think Martin Clarke should have won player of the year in 2010, and not Brogan, despite his scoring prowess. Anyway, back to the vote...

I think Canavan should have been considered for no.15, and not no.14 and his winning of said 14 jersey has upset my vote because I intended to pick him there. In light of this, I will vote for Maurice Fitzgerald.

The full forward line I wanted to vote for was 13. Mickey Linden, 14. Pádraic Joyce, 15. Peter Canavan which, in my view is a better full forward line than 13. Cooper, 14. Canavan, 15. Fitzgerald.

Bernard is not the greatest no.15 as yet, and hasn't got a lot of time to claim that crown either, I hope he does. In the meantime, he has not achieved legendary status, like John Egan or Bernard Flynn and the likes.

The full forward line has more in depth quality than the half forward line. If you were to conduct a poll of the best 6 forwards to have ever played the game I'm not sure the likes of Dooher and McDonald would be any where near a top 6, although they were both great players.

Its a shame that Joyce looks like he's going to miss out. He's comfortably the best player out of the west of Ireland in the last 40 years, along with Canavan he's the best forward I've seen in my years of watching games. If Galway had a chance of qualifying for the final stages of the championship he'd still be playing I'd imagine.

For that reason I'll got for Joyce at 15.

Multi talented Maurice Fitz gets the number 15 jersey and becomes another Kerry representative on our team. Like his nearest rival Matt Connor, Maurice would have been at home in most of the forward positions.

Not happy with the centre half forward spot. There was a dead heat between Trevor Giles and Ciaran McDonald.

Do you want to leave it like that, both men sharing the jersey or do you feel a second vote is required to determine an outright winner etc etc ?

Look forward to your replies on the matter.

Yeah sure go for it again.

Still Trevor Giles for me without question but I fear allstar syndrom may set in and people will vote for whoever the feel shouldnt be left out, irregardless of position, i.e Joyce, browne, forde or whoever.

But anywaysm 11. - Trevor Giles.

You cannot have a team with 16 players?.. second vote on the 11 shirt but between the two playrs only ie. no new player can enter the equation.

Ciaran McDonald all day long
Giles was decent but over rated
Average free taker but intelligent
McDonald could do things no one else could on any given day
a phenomenal talent
McDonald 100%

Admin: I think you will have to confirm teh criteria for number 11: Is it open season or are we voting for Giles/McDonald?

Anyway my votes is McDonald. He was a class forward some of his passes in 2004 final against Kerry was unreal even if Fitzmaurice beat him man to man on teh day in question.

Right dont want this to drag on all week. Finishing post tonight at 10pm. A two horse race. Only Ciaran and Trevor. No duplicates. Votes already given to either will stand.
