Canavan not as great as Tyrone lads think good but not great, Joyce better, perhaps the best was Connor.
but sure ill give my vote to Graham geraghty, as he was so versatile and has to be on team.

Matt Connor.

I worked in Dublin in the eighties and had the pleasure of seeing him play on numerous occasions. He was the greatest player I ever saw.

It has to be Padraic Joyce. Pure class and had longevity.

I'm just thinking there what a shame it would be if either Joyce or Canavan missed out on this team. Joyce surely at 14 with Peter at 15. Does anyone agree??

Actually No, I disagree: I voted Peter at 14 he was a class forward, and I'm voting Maurice Fitzgerald at 15. Joyce as good as he was wouldn't come close to Maurice Fitz in his prime. He ability off both feet was a joy to behold, I will never forget both his equalising point in Thurles in 2001, I was in the terrace behind that goal that Sunday the bend on that ball was unreal, I was on the Hill for his goal against Armagh in 2000 semi final, solo with the right and buried with the left, cracking balance and composure.

15: Maurice Fitz

I will vote Peter Canavan for 14. I did not vote for a few days. Looking back over the votes, I would have guessed that Brian McGuigan would have come close to winning the no 11 spot given the preponderance for current/recent players. To my astonishment, he did not even get a single nomination. This should be done again and next time, nobody should be allowed to vote for players from their own county (I am guilty of that on two positions). That way we might come close to the greatest football team of all time rather than the best Meath XV of the last 30 years.

if canavan doesn't get 14 im boycotting this webpage. Burst onto the scene in the early 90's and up until 2005 was still a central figure in the tyrone team.

Almost single handily won Tyrone an all Ireland in '95. Was a pleasure to watch him. Would make any team of any era

At 15 it simply has to be Maurice Fitzgerald.

He could do things on a football field that no one else would even dream of, and I mean even the likes of Peter, Joyce etc. He was one of those players you'd happily travel the length of the country to watch play the game.

His point from a sideline in Thurles in 2001, his mesmerising goal v Armagh in 2000, his pass into MFR for a goal in the replay that year, his commanding performance in single handedly winning the 1997 All-Ireland final v Mayo, including a free off the ground with his supposedly weaker left foot from the wire of the Hogan Stand and an epic sideline kick at the death to ensure victory.

He was a genius on the football field.

Maurice Fitzgerald.

Absolute joy to watch this man play football. One of the finest ever produced.

If Matt Connor didn't get the number 14 jersey then he will be my vote for 15! I've seen all the greats play over the last 35 years and Connors is the best of them all. It would be a travesty if the likes of Giles , Dooher who are inferior players to him made the team and Connors didn't.
