Very supposed at all the votes for Dooher, don't get me wrong he was a great player.

My vote goes to Michael Donnellan

Brian Dooher

For one thing he actually played at his best at the top level from 96 to 08 which is longer than most play at all.

Also captained an Ulster Team to 2 All Ireland. Not many have done that.

Plus if you are going to have a team of classy forwards someone will have to give them the ball.

I am glad admin have set out a stall on this in stead of the yearly fiasco of the all stars fitting the best set of forwards in wherever they can.

The half forward positions recently have become a niche with 10 the workhorse who follows the ball and covers acres of ground not dissimilar to 7 in rugby. However this is a recent phenomenon and the position did exist previous to that. Unfortunately I either didn't see or cant think of anyone standout pre-mid nineties

Anyway my nominees are both recent

Brian Dooher
Michael Donelan
Yes I know Paul Galvin is missing. Sorry temperament when it counted is lacking and although he covers acres of ground and probably the best breaking ball winner ever, and rarely lost the ball but I don't think he had the forward skills to match these two.

Dooher is the stand out for me, he redefined this position and his shear relentlessness wins thru, which perhaps overshadowed his skill at times. Defining moments for me where that point v Kerry in 08 and his match winning performance v Donegal in 09(?), one of the most dominant performances I have ever seen by a player in any match.

Brian Dooher

Mick Lyons. The Meath full back, whose sheer presence, could terrify a bully like Keith Barr into a nervous wreck.

I don't think so, Barr was afraid of no one, not even Mick, unless you can prove me wrong. Just ask Tom Harris!

@Jinxie

Yes just like last weekend, votes for the right half forward position run until Monday. On Monday morning we will move on to the centre forward position.

Have a good weekend!

The myth of Keith Barr! Pulling a few angry faces and puffing your chest out didn't really impress with the centre-half forwards from Donegal, Down and Derry in the early 90's. Mentally those men were very much a product of their environment and knew what trouble looked like, and it didn't have feathered hair!

That's right, Keith missed that penalty by a mile because the sun was in his eyes, lol.

So you think Keith missed a penalty because he was afraid of Mick Lyons? Nothing to do with the fact that two Meath players ran along side him screaming abuse in his ear as he took the kick?

Those kicks are usually retaken as far as I know! He never complained and ran straight back into his position!

And that 'mile' you speak of, try a couple of inches and don't be exaggerating!

Sean O'Neill of Down for me here. While a more than useful full-forward in his time his best days were at 10.

Ger Power without a doubt has to be on this team pound for pound the toughest i've seen in my day wheather he played county or club he never backed down from anybody. He had it all speed, skill tough and he was an outstanging half back as well (think he won multiple allstars as a back and forward) For me he was better than galvin or Dooher or donnelan and he played top class football over twenty years.

If we're onto the number 11 spot then I am going experience tin great Matt Conner of Offaly. One of the best players I've seen.

Talk of Paul Galvin and Brian Dooher are way off the mark for the greatest ever no 10. They are both hard working complete footballers who bring an intensity to forward football that is hard to replicate. However, this is the greatest 15 players to ever grace Gaelic Football. Do they measure up against the likes of Mickey Kearns, Seán O' Neill, Peter Canavan, Maurice Fitzgerald or even Ciaran McDonald? I would argue that they don't have the natural footballing ability of the afore mentioned. This selection process is essentially flawed because most of the top footballers have won All Stars in a variety of positions. Could you really pick Galvin and Dooher at the expense of Fitzgerald, Kearns, Canavan etc?
I think no 12 is guaranteed at Pat Spillane, but the rest are open to argument. Gooch, Sheehy, Matt Connor, Canavan, John Egan, Seán Purcell, Mickey Kearns, Ger Power, Stephen O' Neill, Steven McDonnell, Jimmy Keaveney, Kevin Heffernan, Michael Donnellan, Larry Thompkins, Jimmy Barry Murphy for 5 places. I think you have to adopt the All-Star process and shuffle players according to ability rather than be pedantic over who won All Stars in specific positions.
Personally I would accommodate Peter Canavan at no 10 (which he won in 1994). Maurice Fitzgerald would get no 11. Pat Spillane would occupy no 12. Colm Cooper would just shade Mikey Sheehy for no 13. Matt Connor would get the no 14 position. I would opt for John Egan at no 15 (for county bias reasons and the endless watching of the Kerry Golden years and because I never really saw Kevin Heffernan who occupied the position on team of the century).
