Horsebox77 I voted for 4 of them ,but most of the Kerry posters are just voting for Kerry players and no one from outside Kerry. Go back through it and you'll see.

shea
County: Kerry
Paul Curran,Sean Og De Paor even Graham Canty all deserve a mention but it has to be Martin O Connell

Mainly because they think they are the best players ! I think if you asked most people in the world the best 15 of the last 20 years they would all have atleast 6/7 Kerrymen on it

Players I have voted outside Kerry are 1. Cluxton, 3. Mick Lyons, 4. Sean Flanagan, 7. Martin O Connell and 10. Sean O Neill. Just one more than yourself. A lot of people are voting within their own county and that includes the dubs. Most though are voting based on who they actually think is the best player in that position

Clondakin thats fine Dara is entitled to his opinion and I mine, his would bear more weight than mine tho no dobut, although just remember he is a Kerry man so he is good a keeping everyone happy!

On the players I have choosen so far strength of characater has been the common feature. Players who just didn't look good when times were great but recognised when their own team was flagging and rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in all the harder. Kevin Walsh was certainly one of those players, maybe not the flashiest midfielder in the world but a great fielder and a guy who could really "own" the middle third in a way like no other in good times and bad. True he may not have the eye catching surges up the field to grab a goal like Sean C or big Whelo but being a midfielder is much more than that, it is about obtaining primary posession and preventing your opponent from doing the same. Walsh done this consistently and that is why he makes my list. Ciaran didnt do that consistently and that is why he is not.

On another aside he is a great pundit, knowledgable, courteous and original,.... RTE will probably be getting rid of him soon!
Seanie I too had a fine little chuckle at royaldunne

Anyways on to the forwards....

Walsh didn't do it consistently, before 98 Joe you wouldn't even know who he was for god sake and he was near the end of his career at that stage. Whelan from 96 to 09 was Dublin's most consistent performer , he could catch ball like like no one else his goal against Armagh was unbelievable , Walsh was a good work horse who was a good player but wasn't in Whelan's class. Galway were great back then cause they had great forwards Joyce,Donnellan,Fallon etc not cause of Walsh

Seán O'Neill just before my time so I can't give him the thumbs up.

Has to be Ger Power. Anyone who picks Dooher is miles off, apart from '05 he was not nearly as important as people had him hyped. He never stood out at club level and I got to see a fair bit of him and he was completely off the radar in his prime from '96 to '02. Poor man's Galvin.

As a back I look at this and think who would I least like to attempt to mark in a game. I probably wouldnt get within 20 yards of most of the contenders but I got a stitch just thinking about marking Brian Dooher. He gets my vote.

Great no. 10s in recent times are Maurice Fitzgerald, Brian Dooher, Trevor Giles and Danny Hughes but surely it has to be player of the millennium Seán O'Neill.?!

Well he was pretty important in all three all-ireland wins and won all-stars in those years. Tyrone in general weren't that great between say 1997 and 2000. Dooher was Ulster player of the year in 1996 though.

Oh and in relation to calling him a "poor man's Galvin", how many great years has Galvin had? He was suspended in 08, had a great year in 09 and hasn't done all that much since. Still think Galvin's an excellent footballer, I'm not disputing that.

Don't get me wrong I think Dooher was a class act, but in terms of best ever I just can't see how he's up there. He was part of a great Tyrone team and had loads of help around the middle from lads who all had an exceptional work rate. History will be kind to him because he always delivered on the big days and was captain two of the AI wins. As far as that type of grafting, smart running and linking half forward I feel that Galvin was much better at it. He had to break into a very successful Kerry team coming from an unfashionable club so had to wait for his chance.
