Very very hard to leave Jack O'Shea out but I'm going with

Mick O'Connell of Kerry and Dermot Early of Roscommon.

Honourable mention to Niall Buckley and Dermot Earley, Kildare. John McDermott, Meath. Darragh O Se, Jack O Shea and Mick O Connell. Kerry.

But the stand out midfielders have to be Dermot Earley, Roscommon and Tommy Murphy, Laois.

No.8 John McDermot
No.9 Darragh O'Shea,

Honorable mention, always thought Ciaran McManus of Offaly was underrated, Dermot Earley of Kildare was another class act.

Kerry is always a good place to begin for midfielders, having given us Jacko, Mick O'Connell, Paddy Kennedy, Dara O'Se and Pat "Aeroplane' O'Shea. Ulster too has had some greats over the years, most notably Derry's Jim McKeever, and more recently Colm McAlarney, Eugene McKenna and Anthony Tohill. Dublin's Brian Mullins was a colossus, while Laois' legendary 'Boy Wonder' Tommy Murphy was selected on the Millennium team. Out West, Roscommon's Dermot Early stands out as perhaps the outstanding midfielder from his province.

All of those players were greats in their own time, but I'll go for the same pair as the Centenary selectors, Jack O'Shea and Mick O'Connell, men who were not only great midfielders, but both probably among the best 5-6 footballers of all time.

Every County has had some class midfielders: Shay Fahy, John Galvin, John Quane, Liam McHale, Anthony Tohill, Brian MvGilligan, Sean Cavanagh, there are just names from the current era, Jack O'Shea, Mick O'Connell, Seanie Walsh, The 2 Dermot Earley's, Brian Mullins, John McDermot, the list goes on.

At the risk of be baised the best midfielder I have ever seen has been Seamus Moynihan, even though he was more suited to the centre back position. For fielding qualities, dictating play and being a true leader one cannot look further than Darragh O'Se, He was a class apart in every sense of the word, the amount of times he changed the course of a game was unbelievable, blinkered in his quest for success.

My partnership would be Jack O'Shea and Darragh O'Se

I Started watching games in from mid seventies onwards and for my vote Jacko is a shoe in as verified by Team of the Century selection: Anthony Tohill and Darragh O'Se are probably the 2 most consistent midfielders I've seen in the modern era; others mentioned such as Dermot Early Sen, Brian Mullins and Jim McKeever are very honourable candidates but on the journey's to and from Croke Park,Clones, Pairc Ui Coaimh, every midfielder was compared against "the great" Mick O'Connell by my dad, uncles and their contemporaries so in that respect my two would be

Jack O'Sea & Mick O'Connell

Easy choice. Brian Mullins of Dublin and Jack O'Shea of Kerry. Jacko even took the Australians apart and Brian was already legendary even before he defied medical science by first of all walking again and then going onto play in three all Ireland finals after an absolutely horrific car accident very nearly killed him

Offaly midfielder Willie Bryan turned in the greatest ever individual performance that I have seen. It was the replayed All Ireland final of 1972.

The Faithful were badly understrength and with O Connell lording midfield matters Kerry had pulled 5 or 6 points clear 10 minutes into the second half.

Thereafter everything stuck to the hands of the Walsh Island man, Willie was everywhere, the tide turned in Offalys favour and a famous two in a row was completed.
