Competition: choose the greatest football team ever

Cluxton, with his kickouts even more than his frees, has redefined the position in a way that no-one else did before him, so I'd find it difficult to make a case for anyone ahead of him.

Billy Morgan of Cork was the best goalkeeper I saw.

Admin. Should each poster be allowed to pick from own county. Now I married a gorgeous lady from the capital, but Dublin have by far the most posters on hear, so theoretically you could end up with a team of dubs, now they salt of earth people and im sure would look beyond their own, but its possible.

royaldunne fair point but I think its just meant as a bit of fun. The HS demographic means the majority of votes will be for current or recent players anyway and you're bound to get more votes for players from counties that have the most posters.

I moroon. Sure its only bit of craic. But this is making me feel old hear, most people wouldn't even know Martin furlong, or the late great kearns of cork. Very close between both as who would be best.

John O'Leary was better than both of them RD!

And that kind of explains all the votes for Cluxton. The best current goalkeeper.

It is a close call between Dan O Keefe and Martin Furlong. Cluxton is being mentioned a lot and he is good at placing balls, but letting in five goals against an average Meath team counts him out as being one of the greats.
I would have to go for Dan O Keefe as the greatest I have seen.

Yep 100 agreement.

Realdub oleary definitely great keeper (best dub ever had IMO) but for me furlong, kearns, and O'Keefe would all be ahead, but not by much

Big man from Newtownstewart Finbar McConnel

Ah man after my own heart. Surprised he's only got two votes in this thread (myself and yourself)

Fantastic keeper.

May surprise royaldunne and Maroonatic but Galway and Meath have and by some distance the largest amount of registered posters on these boards.
Both counties on their own outnumber Dublin posters by a ratio of 3 to 1. However they are more inclined to stay on their own county forums while Dublin posters are attracted to the main board.
So if you want Johnny Geraghty or Michael McQuillan voted in as top keeper then you will have to get your fellow countymen voting here.

Although to be fair to the great man, Martin, while playing for Offaly did once say "I may be the best keeper at the minute, but I won't be Fur long".
Sorry lads...
