Will go with Sean Og De Paor.

This is another wide open position, with both Stephen White (Centenary team) and Martin O'Connell (Millennium team) the first 2 who spring to mind. I'd also seriously consider Galway's Martin Newell, while Philip Jordan has easily been the best No.7 I've seen the last 20 years. I wouldn't consider Paul Curran simply because I don't ever recall him playing in the position, and to select him here would be unfair on the genuinely great LHBs.

However, the man I would go for is a true legend of the game, and one of the best all-around footballers ever to play it. After he broke both his legs, Mick O'Dwyer became a star forward, but it was as a fast and stylish wing back that he made his name. I know that the great Sean O'Neill considers him his toughest opponent and would have him on his side, so that it good enough for me to sway it in O'Dwyer's favour.

I take it all those who voted their No 7's before Admin gave the nod are regarded as spoiled votes :) I'm voting against the party whip and omitting Sean Og De Paor for left-half back as Martin O'Connell is more deserving. So

No7 Martin O'Connell - Meath

I would have to go with Martin O'Connell (Meath) as well. Probably the best no 7 I have seen.

No contest. Martin O'Connell. Team of millennium no 7. 3 all Ireland, 6 leinsters 4 all stars. Never sent off, hardly ever booked (if ever)

Ah, come on. Vote for him on the basis of his footballing ability, as that was undoubted, but don't pretend that he played the game fairly. What he did in the 1996 semi-final was pretty despicable.

Pretty despicable comment yourself Thomas......look at the footage again....Martin had his eyes on the ball, no intent to either step on brian Dooher/Dinky mcBride or injury a player...Martin was never a dirty player..i was in Omagh during the league and the abuse Martin was subjected to by some Tyrone supporters was disgusting

Anyway onto the vote
6 leinsters, 3 all irelands, 4 all stars, twice texaco player of the year, team of the millenium...

The one and only....

Martin O'Connell

DJ Kane from An Dún, captain of '94 winning side and played same position in '91. Did O'Connell not play '96 season in full back line for Meath?

Brian I was also in Omagh for that game, and was disappointed by the booing that O'Connell received. However, he did stamp on Dooher's head, and the video showed just how deliberate it was. O'Connell was a fabulous footballer, at both LHB and corner back, but what he did that day was deliberate and disgusting, and had no place on a football field.

We'll agree to disagree on that Thomas
And Suas yes Martin was at 4 in the 96 all ireland team, he could play absolutely anywhere and did for meath, may have even been 14 in an AI semi final v kerry in 86

Meath posters dont rise to the bait what martin o connell did or didnt do would'nt be talked about now if tyrone had won that game. Still goin on about 95 and now 96 semi as well . Ive seen martin o connell play numerous times against dublin in some very physical encounters and would never consider him a dirty player ! Super footballer very versatile and easily deserving of the no.7 shirt !
