This is another wide open position, with both Stephen White (Centenary team) and Martin O'Connell (Millennium team) the first 2 who spring to mind. I'd also seriously consider Galway's Martin Newell, while Philip Jordan has easily been the best No.7 I've seen the last 20 years. I wouldn't consider Paul Curran simply because I don't ever recall him playing in the position, and to select him here would be unfair on the genuinely great LHBs. I take it all those who voted their No 7's before Admin gave the nod are regarded as spoiled votes :) I'm voting against the party whip and omitting Sean Og De Paor for left-half back as Martin O'Connell is more deserving. So Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 1082 - 12/06/2013 11:46:49 1404769 Link 0 |

I would have to go with Martin O'Connell (Meath) as well. Probably the best no 7 I have seen. aidan64 (Kerry) - Posts: 673 - 12/06/2013 12:02:06 1404793 Link 0 |

DJ Kane from An Dún, captain of '94 winning side and played same position in '91. Did O'Connell not play '96 season in full back line for Meath? Suas Sios (None) - Posts: 1558 - 12/06/2013 13:41:18 1404922 Link 0 |

Brian I was also in Omagh for that game, and was disappointed by the booing that O'Connell received. However, he did stamp on Dooher's head, and the video showed just how deliberate it was. O'Connell was a fabulous footballer, at both LHB and corner back, but what he did that day was deliberate and disgusting, and had no place on a football field. Meath posters dont rise to the bait what martin o connell did or didnt do would'nt be talked about now if tyrone had won that game. Still goin on about 95 and now 96 semi as well . Ive seen martin o connell play numerous times against dublin in some very physical encounters and would never consider him a dirty player ! Super footballer very versatile and easily deserving of the no.7 shirt ! DUBJOHN (Dublin) - Posts: 957 - 12/06/2013 15:25:08 1405018 Link 0 |
