Competition: choose the greatest football team ever

Theres plenty voting for JJR at 6. Im not doubting all the great stories and reports I've heard about the man, but how many of the people voting for him have actually seen him play?
Surely you should have had to have seen a player playing (a few times at least) to say that they are the greatest of all time.

Good point Jinxie but how did the GAA pick the Team of the Century?

I voted for John Joe O Reilly because I have heard first hand evidence from people who seen him play. We also have his record as a footballer and primary sources, for example, film footage and newspaper reports.
If a bunch of twenty year olds were picking the greatest soccer team would you leave out Pele, Cruyff and Maradona?

Ok, if the selection is limited to the plasma TV. microwave and Iphone generation, thats me gone then !

My kids don't believe me when I tell them about phone boxes, reel-to-reel tape recorders, 24 sweets for 1D (not the band), 4 months of summer, 14 hours of sunshine and a man walking on the moon......ah ancient GAA history !!!!!! i.e games played before 80's

If I was starting up a team right now I would have Kevin Moran in there but we are running out of numbers in the back line so it has to be Seamus moynihan even though I heard bill Casey was the toughest of all of them even the great John Joe o'Riley

Kevin moran for me would have been the best centre half only for going abroad, two allirelands at age of 20 and 21 .
So ill give it to Kieran mc Geeney .

I trust that the few who mentioned Glen Ryan for no.6 will be picking Jarlath Fallon for no.11.....

And, for the record (and fear of a backlash!), I consider Glen Ryan the best CHB of the 90's (better than Nallen, Barr, McGeeney et al).. Was maybe putting my argument for CHF in a few days too early!...

Once again on the players I have seen the nominations would be:
Henry Downey
Keith Barr
Kieran McGeeney
Stephen O'Brien

All real driving force behind their team, who added another dimension to their team merely by being on the pitch just like any CFB should which is why Seamus Moynihan who was probably a better footballer than all of the above is left out

Anyway ironically enough the most limited footballer (skillwise) of the list gets the nod:

Kieran McGeeney
