Forde was was being marked by Cormac McGill that day.

I'd go with Darren Fay

While I wouldn't say roasted there can be no doubt that Stuart Mackenzie-Smith got the better of him in 2003 and he hardly went on to a stellar career. When Fay was good he could be very very good but he definitely had a few off-days as well.

Ok lets clear a few things up hear. Firstly Joyce scored ONE point off Darren fay, is that a roasting?? Secondly thay day in carlow fay wasn't marking Ford. Please lads get facts straight before posting this stuff. McGill if I recall was on ford for most of that "roasting " and Joyce was swapped off fay cause he was getting nothing off him, it was unfortunately sidelines fault for not sending Darren with him or wr most likely would have won thay game.
So less of the inaccurate accusations please.

Bellew played at corner back for a good while, zero pace and was playing in a top class Armagh defence that worked like dogs from the full-back line to the half forward line. If he played for any other county he would have got roasted week in week out.

Although Moynihan was wasted in there he was the best full-back I've ever seen.

Royaldunne Fay and O Reilly took turns in the second half and neither of them could handle Joyce. Man I've given him my vote I rate him as the best I've seen but he was marking Joyce that day in the second as well as O Reilly.

The nature of being a fullback is that you are going to get days when you are taken apart. It has happened to them all. Moynihan was roasted by a 19 yr old Ronan Clarke in the 2002 AI final, O'Keefe was troubled by Keaveney on occasions, and the great Paddy O'Brien was famously destroyed by Kevin Heffernan in the 1955 Leinster championship.

You just have to accept that they've all had bad days, and assess the players on their whole career.

That's why in my opinion Canty is better Thomas Clarke. Over a career he has been more consistent even he didn't have the big stand out days that Fay had. And Canty's done it on everyone from the Gooch to Barry Hall and all in between.
