Joe McMahon sent off

The bottom line is, it wasn't a kick and it wasn't a stamp.

The referee obviously agreed with you as wither offence would have warranted a straight red.

It is slowly turning into soccer the way we are trying to get people sent off...

It was instigated by the Donegal player, if McMahon had kicked him for no reason I reckon it may have been a red card, but he didn't.

Totally agree re soccer comment , the influence " HERE ON SKYSPORTS " has had on views and trial by analysis is mind boggling . Very obvious on our own site , people influenced without even realising it .

Why is this an issue now? There was a yellow card offense, and then there was a second one. Was the donegal player holding his leg? most definitely. It is up to the ref to enforce the rules, which he did. WE can speculate all we like on gamesmanship and who tried to get who sent off, but at the end of the day, the rules are the rules. Im sure it will happen again before the end of the summer.

When I saw it I thought there wasn't anything in it. A mere shaking off of the player who was clutching his leg. Why was Wherrity even holding his leg? Takes two to tango.

Holding a leg does not excuse the reaction.

Was it really that bad of a reaction? Yellow card OK but there's been way worse incidences where players have stayed on the field. How about when Ger Brennan smashed his knee into Declan O'Sullivan's face in the All-Ireland final a couple years ago? Was he even booked? In the context of Joe McMahon's reaction I think that in itself is soft compared to some of the stuff we've seen even in the last decade.

Watch the All-Ireland final of 2011 which I'm sure you have a DVD of. At one point in the second half Declan O'Sullivan lost his balance and slid on his knees only for Brennan to delay his reaction and collide his knee with O'Sullivans face. I'd be amazed if I imagined it.

You imagined it, it was Brennan's arm and O Sullivan then banged his head off the ground, but at no stage did Ger's knee hit O Sullivan's head.

Yes, apologies it wasn't his knee but he still connected O'Sullivan's head with his elbow which doesn't exactly dilute the incident. Make of it what you want http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Gpir6kQXA Footage starts at 08:50

So Wayno are you saying that players in that situation should just submit to whatever the other player is doing? In this incident are you saying that Joe should have just let Wherity hold on to him and not try to free himself and thereby let the so called cynicism that we are all hearing about win out? Nearly anybody who was in Joes position yesterday would have done something similar, its a basic instinct to try to free yourself when you are being restrained. If you mess with the bull you get the horns.......I'm a culchie Wayno....I know about these things:)

Listening to the RTÉ commentary on the way home from Portlaoise yesterday I thought McMahon did something really awful. However having seen it on the tv last night I have to say it wasn't anything like what I was lead to believe from the radio commentary.

The book says he should have gotten a red card but I feel a red would have been very harsh in this instance.

He'd be one player I wouldn't be sorry seeing getting his marching orders but a yellow card was all the coming together warranted I have to say.

His second yellow offence was just plain stupid, glad he got caught by the umpires.

Shouldnt even have got one yellow not to mind a red card! The Dub poster said it..A mans game! First card Joe was trying to get out of the mass of bodies to take the free, the Donegal man latched onto his leg like a dog in heat acting the maggit, he got a boot, no intent to injury, no damage done, he was fine. But as they say if he's looking for it give it too him! Dont play between the rules and cry wolf when you get it dished back.

Second card was uncalled for, the umpire trying to make a name for himself, yes if the ball was there a free for sure but play had moved on and he simply stuck his foot out, not even a kicking motion. I think Murphy made a meal of it too.

He should never have got a yellow for it but Wherity should have.

watched this on youtube last night and for what its joe mcmahon should never have been sent off in my opinion, the stamp was never a stamp, twas a joke and the trip on young murphy was just that a trip, but warranted him staying down as if playing in the champions league. i have to say this is the ugly side of football

Wherity should have been yellow carded for holding onto Joe McMahon that time.
