Realdub you've got that spot on.
There was nothing between the sides both showed why they were in division 3 this year. Brian Meade was my man of the match he gave an all round preformence. New man is hit and miss with the frees missed two handy one when there wasn't alot in it and the Wicklow I felt passed the ball off too much insted of having a go themselves. Overall Meath need a big improvement to beat Wexford and Wicklow might cause problems in the qualifers depending on the draw!!

Unlucky Wicklow but in fairness Meath were the better team and deserved there win, never a peno the Wicklow player dived plus the Meath goalie was clearly taken out of it. I don't think Wexford will fear that Meath team but it's not easy down there in Wiclow in them conditions so I wouldn't be to hard on Meath's performance tonight.

Yeh whacko, in all honesty I was ribbing them but it was an entertaining enough game from two of footballs minnows!
But seriously though, Wicklow forwards had a lot of ball, and Wexford have some class forwards!

The saved Wicklow penalty and the fluky Meath goal almost immediately afterwards decided the outcome of tonight's game.
The penalty call was an iffy one for sure but it was given nevertheless therefore the referee should have ordered the kick be retaken. It was clear cut that the Meath keeper was 2 yards off his goal line when the shot was taken. Very hard for anyone to beat a man of O'Rourke's size at the best of times but even more so when your shooting from only 9 mts and strike it poorly.
Referee's don't seem to enforce the rule that states the keeper must stay on his goal line before the ball is struck, they won't allow a kick to be taken until all players have retreated outside off the D yet they allow the keeper to come off his line which is an advantage to the keeper imo and they don't do anything about it.
I wouldn't right off Meath's Leinster hopes just yet, they'll beat Wexford I'd be pretty sure of that and who knows what they'll do on Leinster final day in Croke Park.
Playing Dublin or Kildare will not unduly worry them.

Credit to Wicklow, they gave a great account of themselves and only for that moment of madness with the penalty and that freak goal from Reilly it wouldn't have been as straight forward for Meath. I think most Meath people will be very happy. Aughrim is a very hard place to go and any sort of win is a good result.
Wexford is going to be a very tough game and I wouldn't go into the game with a whole deal of confidence. They've always been a bogey team for Meath and with a strong midfield and a handful of quality forwards they'll cause us a lot of problems. However, I think we will build on this performance and the game in two weeks will be very tight.
Just one last thing to note, who still doubts Graham Reilly wouldn't make most top county teams? He gave an absolute exhibition of forward play. I'd say Royaldunne was foaming at the mouth in awe of the lad. :)

Overall Meath were the better team and fully deserved the win, and it was a decent enough game.

Great win, biggy proved his words were right and what an outstanding forward he is. Well done my friend, you proved how right I am. penalty wasn't. Justice done when saved. Meath won in second gear. Will dispose of wexford easily. We will reach a leinster. Final. Hon the royal!

well done to meath. some good displays, from g reilly, gillespie, meade, menton, wallace and o rourke especially. thought bray and newman were very quiet. wicklow played really well and if they had to let the ball in quicker or shoot for longnrangers in the second half they would have been closer I feel.

Ok I only got to post a quick one after the match so ill give a more detailed pov now. Firstly well done to both wicklow and meath for giving those at the match and watching on tv a great open game of football in what has to be said horrendous conditions. firstly while the the peno miss and kevs freak goal will be seen as turning point, it was a disgrace that the penalty was awarded in first place, O'Rourke was upended and while it should have been free out, instead it was penalty and to add insult a yellow card. We had a few below par performance in particular (breaks my heart to say this) Stephen Bray, who i think best days are behind him (hopefully im wrong in that) lads back from injury needed the game and showed that too. But I wont dwell on negatives. Wallace what a debut in leinster, orouke was top notch between sticks, Gillespie was good, brian Meade had a fantastic game and our midfield is looking better.
But finally what can be said about the magnificent Graham "biggy" Reilly. There is not enough superlatives to describe his amazing talent. yesterday he rammed a few things down a few people's throat's, he covered every blade of grass in aughrim he high fielded, he tracked back he defended as if his life depended on it while I don't expect many outside county to applaud his talents, what really has annoyed me is some within county (very much minority) ran him down. I'll repeat it for the thousand time Graham Reilly would walk onto any team in country, fact. When he plays well and is not injured meath mostly win. People said he was arrogant in his remarks in paper, i say when your that good if you can cash those cheque then by all means say what you like. Rc i was salivating :)

I expect Wexford to sneak into the final against this Meath team. In general I wasn't convinced whatsoever that this team can seriously compete with Leinsters top teams.
The full forward line was very static (except for Wallace), Newman looks like a very good free taker but contributed very little in open play. Joe Sheridan should probably still start in that full forward line. The midfield struggled to win clean ball all game (the conditions didn't help) and I reckon they might struggle against stronger teams in the middle. The first time I have seen Keoghan live and he didn't impress at all, its too soon to judge him though.
On the bright side, Reilly was fantastic playing in his best position - 12. When he gets running he is very hard to stop and very accurate as well. I get the feeling Meath will be relying heavily on Graham Reilly and Newman from frees for scores with that starting front 6. Meath have a long way to go.

CaisleanCnucha Just a few things. Firstly meath have competed with the perceived "top " teams in leinster. Beat Dublin in ten, but perhaps more relevant easily beat kildare last year. Meath will beat wexford and while I also think they would beat kildare i doubt that will be opposition, and they are a couple of years behind then at min. keoghan had a bad day yesterday, no doubt, but his performance v kildare and dubs last year proved he has alot to offer this young meath team. Reilly is fantastic (goes without saying) wallace will improve, however i do agree with you on joe, i think his cameo yesterday proved he still has lots to offer meath and IMO should start against wexford, and i feel we will win that with 3/5 to spare.

Just watched match this morning, enjoyed the match for honesty and lads just chasing the ball with not to much focus on game plans. To be fair to Meath they were the better team and scoreline was about right.(never felt at any stage they were going to lose this) It was like an intermediate match and Meath had a couple of subs that were senior that could come on. Aughrim in bad conditions to come away with 5 point win ,id say most meath lads would be happy. Meath half back line would of been destroyed by a half decent team last night and half forwards don't do half enough running when they haven't got the ball to trouble a good team coming out with the ball. Wicklow to be fair never gave up and had a lot of the ball in the match ,just weren't good enough to punish Meath. Meath v Wexford will be a good game , if meath can improve from last night id fancy them to win.

RoyalDunne If you still believe Meath are at the top that is fine, but don't shove it down the throat of those who live in the real world. Since 2010 Meath have gone backwards and Dublin have moved forwards, in 2011 they were knocked out early on and last year they followed up a good win over Kildare with a poor performance against Laois to knock them out. From what I saw the full forward line was nothing to ride home about, the midfield didn't look anything special and it was a generally flat performance. That is a bang average Meath team and if they play like that against Wexford they will lose. Meath have shown little to no consistency over the last few years so I really don't know where you get this vision of Meath from.
