Wicklow v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well after waiting for so long we finally know our opening opposition. The garden county are my second fav team and I'd truly love to see them lift the Delaney cup (hopefully not this year) :)
Aughrim is still a fortress and can't be taken lightly ala longford today. I dont think meath have had to wait this long in awhile to start championship, lets hope we have no injuries to players.
Hon the royal

Potential banana skin this one. That win for Wicklow will give them a lot of confidence. If there's ever a game to be caught cold its the first championship game. I reckon we'll still shade it though.

Meath should win this one. A Meath Louth semi final would be worth watching. I was at the Westmeath Louth game and I was impressed by them even though Westmeath won by playing with 14 players in the second half.

I was at all the league finals and Meath have a few nice new players especially Newman and Wallace in the full forward line. They were missing a few players that day and will be stronger the next day. Leinster will have plenty of interesting games this year and don't be surprised if there are a few shocks next Saturday evening in Croker!

Two evenly matched teams who play a very similar style (if that's the right word ) of football

this could be very close game, wicklow might just shade it with home advantage.Aughrim is a notorious venue to try and win at. The winner of this will only get a stay of execution anyway as louth will probarbly take either handy enough in semi final

I do remember wicklow put meath to the pin of their collar in 91. brought them to a replay and should have won the first game. Big fergus daly in midfield for wicklow

Beal,
I think he was referring to Turkish football team Galatasary's sign at their stadium(or their old stadium anyway at least) which read "Welcome To Hell" in an attempt to scare or intimadate the opposition fans with the hostile atmosphere etc.
Get the signs out for the Royal following Wicklow :-)

id say it could be a cracker of a game like the two games in 1991.the scores that day were meath 1-09 wicklow 0-12. replay meath 1-12 wicklow 1-09. there wont be more than 2 points in this either way, a draw could be a good bet.would the replay be in navan?

Dubsfan. They can get out as many signs as they want.
The one thing is that no meath team will ever be put off by that craic. You as a dub should know that :)

Think hes talking about his estate(now for some of you country lads i dont mean a big house with acres of land) doors hanging off the hinges , boarded up houses , broken windows , graffiti on walls.

Bring on July 14th so RD ;-)
Wicklow v Meath will be a very interesting game in Aughrim were Wicklow have had some decent results in the last few seasons in the qualifiers but I think Meath should have a little to much for Wicklow on the day...really close game though I reckon.

As lovely as it may sound RD, neither ye or the garden county will be lifting the Delaney Cup anytime soon :D

Seriously though, was surprised at Longford, they've gone back, Glen Ryan's job is very shaky I'd say, well done Wicklow!!!

Dubsfan while taking one game at a time I have booked off the 15 july as I expect to either have a serious hangover from celebration :of victory or drowning my sorrows. Either way if we should get that far I wont be in work next day :)
