RTE, Skype & EOH

As I saying in another post I was working on Sunday Night so I just got round to watching The Sunday Game's Highlights program last night. A big congratulations to all our Ex Pats from London on their class win over a fancied Sligo side. Personally I thought RTE's coverage of the game was a bit Naff, this is 2013 and yet we have highlights from the game taken by what looked like somebody's home camcorder! Honestly I've seen better quality recordings from some club matches! In fairness they did send John Kenny to London for a bit of build up to the game, but then on the highlights program; What do they come up with? Interview the London manager Via SKYPE, WTF? I mean it's a great medium to use if You're reporting from New York or Australia (Err doesn't RTE have a live broadcast when covering the International Rules from Australia?) Even Des Cahill seemed a bit embarrassed by having to say "Here we have the winning London manager coming live via Skype", jokingly saying "It looks like you and those players are crammed into somebody's bedroom to get near the laptop for the broadcast" IMO totally unprofessional approach from our National Broadcaster and their Flagship GAA program...... So finally onto Eamonn O'Hara and his interesting rant about the beaten Sligo team's manager Kevin Walsh. Obviously there are 2 sides to every story here and while I do feel O'Hara has reason for complaint for the way he was treated (He Tells us of 4 Nights & Week Training in November and how he can't commit to that at 37 years of age and business commitments and family) On the outset, I think as a Sligo Legend and Longest serving player it's a Fair enough request from Eamonn. But when he goes on to rubbish the managers training methods and question his record and call for him to do the decent thing and resign, I do feel Eamonn lost the run of himself and let himself down. All his valid points just then seemed to be overshadowed by a bitterness towards the manager, who rightly or wrongly has made a FOOTBALL decision based on what players could commit to his Training plan. Sentiment holds NO PLACE for WINNERS in sport, just ask Mickey Harte on how hard it has been for him with Tyrone, to slowly cut away all the players who where once his Loyal Generals on the Pitch, who in their prime would run trough a brick wall for him, but now one by one they've been or will be disguarded. Some people say Tyrone's failure to win a Forth All-Ireland has been due to Mickey being too sentimental with his players, changes needed to be made in 09 but it took him till the 2012 season to really start Re-Building!! Should Eamonn O'Hara have used the Sunday Game platform as the place to air is grievances? A One sided slant to a 2 sided argument looks like an uneven playing field to me. Would have been funny as hell though to have seen the look on Eamonn O'Hara's face IF after his rant, Des Cahill came out with "And Now We Can Chat Live Via SKYPE To The Sligo Manager Kevin Walsh"
