Since when was Greg Blaney a back? He won 3 all-stars in the half-forward line.

James McCartan, Mickey Linden and Blaney were all superb. Honorable mention for Benny Coulter and Martin Clarke - I honestly think Clarke could have been the best of his generation had he stayed. Too young to remember anyone from earlier teams.

From what I've seen Podgie Davis and Dessie Barry were great players for us but hands down Paul Barden has been the best Longford footballer I've ever seen wear the blue and gold.

1386290 DUBLIN LADS WHAT ABOUT PAUL CURRAN? ALONE WITH MULLINS DUBLINS BEST TO ME OF MODERN TIMES
__________

Stmunnsriver

I think I'm the only Dub that went for Paul Curran...

The fella was outstanding and for me a far more accomplished footballer than Brian Mullins

Curran is up there with the very best that this country has ever produced

For Tyrone, in terms of raw talent as opposed to longevity or contributions, it's Frank McGuigan (and I'm from the other side of the County). Glorious fielding ability - that ability to climb higher and seemingly hang in the air longer than everyone around him, mesmerising feints and dummies deriving from superb balance and great strength (sending men on their arfes without him having to lay a hand on them), kick-passing, vision, accuracy, both feet, calmness and grace under the most cynical of attention and pressure, courage, timing and pace, this 6-foot plus Maradona of the GAA had it all and there's never been a Tyrone player like him. With Frank in the side, team tactics amounted to little more than "Give it to McGuigan". Peter number 2. Then Frankie Donnelly, Iggy Jones, Pat King.

For all tyrone fans a book " the lifelong season " interview with Frank very honest brilliant piece , a whole chapter dedicated to one of the greatest to ever grace a GAA field , biggest pity is apart from the Armagh game theres not a lot of footage available , as up untill 20 odd years ago the BBC. And RTE were destroying tapes , thankfully the UTV footage still exists

Although Nuxer was probably the most talented, I'd go with Glen Ryan for consistency, inspiration and leadership. The man never gave up.

No doubt in my mind the greatest Meath player of my lifetime is Colm O'Rourke. He was the talisman/ match winner and game changer in our counties greatest ever team. Perhaps his influence in the eyes of some of the Meath posters here has been dulled by the passage of time and his over exposure in the media.
It would be true to say in terms of pure ability Geraghty edges him, but to me the mark of a truly great player has to include other qualities and in this instance O'Rourke's poise and leadership on and off the pitch distinguish him. In a similar way that touch of class also separates Trevor Giles from Geraghty.

Nationally in my humble opinion Maurice Fitzgerald is without a doubt the most outrageously gifted human i have ever had the pleasure of seeing run out onto a pitch.

Jumbo I'd agree Curran was a nicer footballer but NO one was more influential during a big game than Mullins, 4 AI medals speaks for itself, but I did love Curran!

Mullins for me without being in that car crash would have been on every Dubs list and we missed him badly. Legend.
