The greatest player to play for your county

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Wasn't around for a lot of the Boylan era, but Trevor Giles stood out for me. One of the best passers of the ball that i have ever seen. Royaldunne, Graham Reilly, really? One of our best players at the moment but that ain't saying much

Ross that's! What I was writing. But either got edited or I blanked a line. So ill try again.
Graham Reilly is the best player we have at the moment and while not at those mentioned level yet but certainly has the potential to be barring injury. His top scorer from play last year from midfield (only midfielder to achieve this) is a barometer of his amazing talent.
Now hopefully that clears that up.

An impossible question. How can you compare a top class full-back to a top class corner forward and say which one is greater. There is just too much difference in what they do.
My personal favourite was Colm O'Rourke but could you say he was greater than Mick Lyons or Martin O'Connel. We wouldn't have been much of a full back to be sure.
So I will throw out a few of the greatest Meath players that I have seen that couldn't really be compared to each other:
Mick Lyons, Martin O'Connell, Gerry McEntee, Trevor Giles,Graham Geraghty, Colm O'Rourke. Couldn't really say which of them was better.

Too many to pick from. My personal favourites would be Sylvie Linnane in hurling (what a champ!) and the late, great Enda Colleran in football.

to say I coundnt be further off with McFall is ridiculous. The man led Antrim's front line for years, with great scores from play and frees, he was nominated for an all star and never stopped running throughout a game, he also had great vision setting up a lot of Antrim's scores. I agree that McManus certainly is the go to man today and there wouldn't be much between them but McFall's effectiveness from play just edges it for me.

John Joe O'Reilly, widely acknowledged as the best Centre back ever.

In my era, Larry Reilly! What a man.

Peter Canavan was the greatest but Frank McGuigan also stood out in the 1970's and early 1980's when Tyrone struggled at times to make an impression. Captained the team to Ulster glory as a teenager in 1973, scored a great goal v Down at Newcastle in 1982 and who will ever forget 1984 and the Ulster Final against Armagh.

Nudie Hughes is probably the best Monaghan player of all time although Ray McCarron, Gerry McCarville and Eamonn Murphy were top players,in more recent times you would have to mention Tommy Freeman, Paul Finlay and Darren Hughes. The best hurler I saw playing in Monaghan was the legendary Joe Hayes.
