1383417 2010, 2011 and 2012 were probably the worst years in terms of standard of football being played since the 1960s, apart from the eventual All-Ireland winners of each of those years.
Football in general has been in decline since around 07/08. Imagine any of the beaten All-Ireland finalists from the '90s or 00's playing that Mayo team from last year, the Kerry team from 2011 or Down team of 2010 - would have absolutely wiped the floor with them.
Great era was more like 1990 - 2006. At least 4-5 teams flying every year.
The Kerry team who won the all ireland in 97 are the worst all ireland winning Kerry team of the last 6 all ireland wins for Kerry.
Kildare got to the all ireland Final in 98 while only having one high quality forward

I think you meant to say Kildare beat the previous three years' All-Ireland champions in 1998 while only having one quality forward. Not sure which forward you mean though.

I totally disagree that any game from the black and white tv era should be even considered in this discussion. Even football in the 1980s was dire to watch, with the exceptions of Kerry, Cork and Meath. The standard now is much greater. The intensity is higher and the teams are more evenly matched. there are around 7 teams this year who have serious aspirations to win the competition, and there will be some fantastic games for sure (as well as some awful ones).

This probably won't get past the censor.Martin Lynch was a quality player.Eddie McCormack,Kerrigan and O'Dwyer were decent in my opinion but no better than that.Dermot Early was a much better midfielder and although he got a goal in the all ireland final not really a forward.Padraig Graven was only there to kick frees in my opinion and had very little impact from play.Kildare had a great defence and midfield though.

In my eyes the 90s was best football we had cause in 70s and 80s it was man on man but it was almost catch and kick and hope for the best ! 90s was different man on man ok hard hitting and plenty of toe tapping then find your man In the 2000 upwards it is more crowding out the player and getting to over carry are lose it As Darragh O Se said " Tyrone would let you catch the ball all day long but it was when you came down with it the problems started 3/4 waiting to crowd you out !

Impossible to compare things now to then - same in every sport yet people still hark on comparing things to the past etc. It would be fair to say though that the fitness levels and training levels have increased dramatically - though as that is across the board it is again hard to compare to the level of a time long ago.

I think the last ten years or so have been excellent thanks to the back door system. Galway, Kerry, Armagh, Tyrone, Cork, Dublin, Donegal all worthy winners. Westmeath, Laois, Fermanagh, Wexford, Sligo, Limerick have all had good summers. Down, Derry, Mayo, Meath and Kildare have all reached the last four.

Your obsessed with Tyrone, we didn't make the rules. You say down etc would have won more, that's just your opinion it ain't fact. It's just as hard to win an all Ireland now, ill give you an example how many times did cork knockout Kerry in Munster, if that was pre 2001 then Kerry were gone but not anymore, on any given day an inferior side can beat the odds and win against a stronger county, so you might say now that the big guns have to be beat twice its much more difficult. What's with your obsession with all things Tyrone Topdownfan, our team from 03-08 played some awesome football, we were no saints but not to many sides are not even Kerry who you put on a pedestal every chance you get.

They were some side and have 3 allirelands in one decade to prove it. same way Kerry were some side to keep coming back and win allirelands.

Ye know how it is yerself......if is in the middle of the word life? The Tyrone team that brought us 3 all Irelands are very special to us in Tyrone and they certainly are as special as we think they are.You sound a bit jealous to be honest and being a Down man you've no need to be so just ditch the oul sour grapes.

Another thing on your theory about the back door, we won ulsters in 2001,2007,2010 and got knocked out by teams who came through the back door, by your theory we might have won a few more all Ireland's if their hadn't of been a back door, theres to many ifs buts and maybes, in my book whoever wins the all Ireland is the best team in the land for that year simple as that.

Nothing to do with different teams winning it, you're missing my point completely.
The Cork team that won in 2010 were a great side but never got going at all that year, they literally fell over the line. They were an absolute force in 2009 but got beat by on the day by Kerry. The fact is in any year since around '06 there have only been one or two real contenders. You can convince yourself otherwise and there were some solid teams on paper who never got going, but in general the standard has been poorer for some time.
It kills me to say it, I'm pretty much downplaying Donegal's success and building up Tyrone's!!
