Where would the funding come from?

It can be done with no additional funding.

The GPA already exists, all current members of the GPA are club players too.

The GPA should use their influence to lobby county boards on behalf of club players; scheduling of games/championships etc.

The elites using their influence and power for the betterment of the majority, now wouldn't that be something.

______

Not sure about that Mes...

I dont think the GPA pay masters (The GAA)would be too happy with that...

Things have changed now within the GPA... They dont have the scary muscle they once had when they were away from the top table

Like all in opposition... once you get into power... you want to stay there

I think the Clubs have the real muscle to be honest. They always had...

As you said Mes... without Clubs you dont have a GAA

It's also worth noting though that many of the problems for club players exist because of the attitude of the clubs themselves

I think the first step in sorting out Club player welfare rests solely at the foot of the clubs themselves....

I think it's time for the clubs to be more proactive... but they are too interested in themsleves to do that.

Similar to the GPA I suppose...

....

I mean look at what a small group of dedicated former/current inter county players achieved....

Imagine what could be achieved if clubs came together.... now that is enough to scare the holy bejaysus out of the top brass suits!

I think it's up to the clubs themselves to lobby for change and better player welfare structures

I think that would be far more productive....

Time to look beyond the front gate of your own club... that's what the GPA did... they united a vast number of Inter county players

and in the end became so big that it was impossible for the GAA to keep them at arms length..

Jimbodub what would be your biggest cause of concern as a club player? For me it would have to be the way that county boards all over Ireland have relegated their club championships to second place as they take on debts and pour all their resources into the county teams.

Anyone else have any areas which they'd like to see improved for club players?

bad.monkey, i cant believe your comment, the far more boring and sterile intercounty scene. Intercounty is the elite of GAA, it is the best players, bigger crowds, far higher standard and to refer to it as boring is ridiculous. There should be a GPA for club players, but dont be sprouting nonsense in order to get your point across.

PK57 I don't think that the intercounty scene is streets ahead of club football. Anything but. I personally find club games far more enjoyable. There are some great footballers at intercounty level, but there are also an awful lot of "worker types" who are very fit and little else. While some county games are very good, there are some which are absolutely terrible. The same goes for club games.

Fully agree ice, the inter county game is now based on fitness . It has morphed into a sport where fitness is far more important than skill. Give me club games any day.
