Michael Duignan calls for 8 teams in 1A

In fairness Benny, JBM didn't suggest that Cork not be relegated but you can be sure that the eminence grise of CCB shall be at his work!

Fair enough point about Dublin but no-one here claimed that we did not deserve to be relegated last year and there wasn't a word from team or CB to that effect. They just got on with it, as we have done for years of regular relegations anyway!

As kerryluck I think said before, you would never ever hear Kerry or Dublin or Cork footballers demanding that they not be relegated. And yet it is the constant mantra now among certain quarters. Teams need to concentrate more on hurling and less on self-pity.

never be happy with the format no matter what kind of a format it is. It is impossible to please every one on this issue. The current format is creating good competitive games that we have not seen in the league for a long long time. So it should be welcomed.

Another alternative would be to srcap the league and just have a three month Championship in the summer but i'd doubt asnyone would want that!

Aontaím go hiomlán leis an chéad abairt. The football is níos fear i mo thuaraim. We have ocht foirne i ngach roinn and if you get relegated you are at least guaranteed competitive games (ach fós, b'fhear le gach foireann fanacht in roinn 1). Unfortunately, hurling, as yet does not provide the same opportunities, hence the constant tinkering with it and the various committees...

I suppose, ní bheadh aon díospóireacht againn if Clare had lost. We are just feeling sorry for ourselves in Cork today...looking to blame everybody else for our shortcomings!!

An bealach is fearr le sin a dhéanamh a bhenny na an cloigeann a chur síos, work hard and come out fighting in the first round of this years Championship. Tá foireann nua iomanaíochta á tógáil ag Corcaigh faoi láthair and this could give them a chance to come in under the radar next year. You'll have a highly competitive game against Luimneach, ba cheart go dtabharfadh Uíbh Fhailí agus Loch Garman cluiche maith daoibh ar feadh 50 nóiméad ar a laghad. If you were to win the 1B then it would be like you never left 1A and you'd be gauaranteed a big game in the semis then.

It's not rocket science, if they're genuinely concerned with trying to bring borderline counties up to the next grade.Just have two groups of seven, simple as.

Relegate the bottom team in each automatically, the top team automatically gets promoted, have a relegation/promotion play off then between the second team in 1B against the second last team in 1A. This incorporates all reasonable standard counties (14) with reasonably competitive matches. It's also only one extra round of league matches on what's already there, and thus maintains that bit of bite.

Just add water, then leave it alone for several years......

If you have 7 up might as well have 8. 5 standard league games isn't right for that time of year. It should be 7 at least and 8 team divisions are the only solution for that. There's no harm in teams 15 and 16 any given year testing themselves against the teams 9-14. They have to come up against tougher opposition at some stage even if it's only for a year every two years.
