If my memory serves me right Dublin's U-16s in 2011 were well beaten by Westmeath.

AthCliath surely last years Dublin panel of minor players would have included plenty of 16 year olds who didn't make the squad itself.

Are you saying that this years minor team includes no one who was involved with the county panel last year,

Everyone knows that Dublins squad of last year included more lads than the 24 names that appeared in the match programme on match days.

I find it hard to believe that the entire Dublin team and full squad apart form 2 have come in from nowhere this year.I find it hard to believe that the Dublin team is made up of lads who hadn't been involved in Dublin's overall big picture in some capacity or another last year. They may not have played or even got on the subs bench given the strength in dept Dublin have but you'll find they had/have been involved on the training grounds with last years Leinster and All-Ireland champions .

@ The_Analyser, you know your underage football! Westmeath did relatively well at u16 in recent years but this doesn't always lead to a good minor team.

I cant find out about all them, and there might well be a few im missing, i know of 30 lads on minor panel last year only lorcan molloy and micheal deegan were playing yesterday, there was 5 lads playing who were u 16 last year , there was also a 15 yearold from ballymun playing and con o callaghan who came on and scored point at the end was also u16 last year. what you forget is even though there is lads eligable from last years panel, players get dropped and new panels are put together, there is new manager also .

I don't think there should be a back door in the provincial championships but a back door type system should be possible and gives everyone a fair shot at it.For the effort the lads put in they deserves more than 1 competitive match and it would be great to see how they react to losing a game and getting a shot at redemption

carlow have the makings of a decent team if the belief is there but that starts at board level. some good young lads comming up.need to play for 65mins the next day to win . with the game in the balance ref made some poor decisions. it was decent standard in poor conditions for the teams that were playing. shane noonan is a great footballer should get more of a run the next day. look after these lads and sucess will follow. our young lads desereve praise in these tough times.

Bettystown

Were Meath not up by 9 before losing by 11 ??? 20 point turn-around.

Now its possible Meath were not at full power with the Pats lads just back so they could be back via the back-door and very dangerous if they are but for us that was a mighty victory. Its not often that HS (the Meath fans that are & should be) use the term "STEAM-ROLLED" to describe a Meath loss.

With the Minor hurlers also showing a bit of promise ( The Senior Ladies winning their National League Semi & even the Under 16 girls beating KE !!!) a decent week-end for Biffos

Kildare v Westmeath final. Brilliant result for the young lilies. Delighted for Brian Murphy.

I'm not shocked by those results. Going by the U-16 results of two years ago a Kildare v Westmeath final was always likely.

Fantastic result for the minors. The gloom that desended after last Sunday is dissipating.

If Kildare manage to get by Westmeath in the minor next week they'll have won Leinster at minor, junior and Under-21 level this year. McGeeney has his flaws obviously but along with a hard working group he has revitalised the county's GAA structures and deserves to share a lot of the credit for that regardless of what happens in the two games next weekend.

I think almost all of that Dublin team will play minor again next season, nothing surprising to see them lose against a good Kildare side.

Fiery scenes in Pairc Tailteann this evening, Tom Carr and Nigel Crawford got quite heated on the sideline with plenty of pushing and shoving, Westmeath had a man sent off for striking straight red and she all blew up from there, without wanting to sound biased it appeared from my viewpoint that Carr got involved where he shouldn't have and was quite animated thereafter with loads of fist punching and clattering the roof of the dug out from the Westmeath bench, I'll be honest i dont lume the man, Westmeath deserved their win mind Meath played an awful short hand passing game that continuously got them no where and yet they persisted with it, Westmeath are fit and strong with some quite good athletic footballers so the final with Kildare should be interesting, serious win for them in Parnell Park I don't care what anyone says to go there in the face of the "blue wave" and win so convincingly is certainly a fine achievement for the young Lillies, perhaps the Dublin dynasty is not all it promises to be?? Personally I hope that trend continues for another week anyway
