John Gardiner

Would John Gardiner's presence made any difference if brought in for last 20 mins. yesterday? Cork had run themselves to a standstill by then, because of a grave injustice, and experience would have been vital.

He possibly would. Conor O Sullivan, Tom Kenny and Shane O Neill all played well in the backs so he would not have replaced them. Yesterday, our problem was in the forwards. We are light there and Gardiner is not a forward.

I agree bennybunny, all our defenders played well yesterday but given the amount of space they had to cover and the weather, I feel that we needed an old hand to come on. Our forwards are lovely stickmen but no physicality. There will have to be a huge rethink for Kilkenny.

i think cork would have won had horgan not been sent off and if john gardiner was playing center back. cork are clearly lacking a center back and gardiner is exactly the type of player that they need, joyce obviously didnt deliver in the league as brian murphy and lorcan mcloughlin have started both championship games center back. so its obviously a problem position

Speaking of older players and all the talk about John Mullane. How is Ben O' Connor hurling with his club? Cork could of done with someone like him to bring on at the weekend. Would he still be capable of doing a job.

As for Gardiner, he's surely a better wing back than Tom Kenny and I'd imagine Sean Og would be too?

To be fair I thought all the backs didn do to bad you could not really pinpoint any of them and say they were awful even McDonnell who I am not a big fan taught he done ok,man down and heat was a big factor but wasted chances in first half cost us and credit to limerick they took there;s and were worthy winners as for gardiner for sure he should be in that panel, but he wont be there this year and next year he will be another year older with the exception of Kenny every guy is in his mid 20s on that team so jbm is trying to build for the future which is now the way to go about it
