How Referees are selected

Im not questioning Hughes' ability as a ref, In fact i feel for him , Of corse he wanted to be able to officiate a club final, But i dont think this was the right one.. I think Kevin McStay done a good thing bringing it up in light of victory, It shows that he was concerned enough even after he won, I dont think anybody here is questioning the ability of Hughes either to be fair.

Well when Dublin seem to get their 'in house' ref for a lot of important games it does lead to a lot of speculation.

Repeating a lie doesn't make it true. The Mayo management were fairly sly in falsely stating this to the media before last year's Dublin game and put a lot of pressure on the ref. It's not true and should never have been put out there. I don't know why you are repeating it now.

well said doublehop!!!

i feel the refs are not on the same level thats the biggest problem, theres no consistnecy in the rules when you see things happen like in killarney when both donaghy and mccauley struck each other yet how can one get re and one get yellow? a rule is a rule so it should apply to both teams.
take the dublin v mayo match we had two of the worst decisions i have seen happen, first point mayo got came from a free kick yes the word kick is even in the action but the mayo player handpasses the ball to restart the game and was allowed!!!
then we had darren daly of dublin carry the ball over the sideline right under the nose of the linesman and the ref 5 yards away he then threw the ball back into play and was awarded actually awarded a free himself!!!

Around a table with a few bottles of brandy i'd say.

I think inter county mangers and a player representative from each county should convene and select the required number of referees from a proposed list.

Advantages: We just want consistency, players and mangers know alot more about the nature of individual referees than the GAA do. If they select the referees they can be no giving out about controversial calls. and it will also give some indication how players what the games referred and that can only be good for the GAA moving forward.

I agree with Jinxy here. If at all possible Refs should not be appointed who are from a county that could be effected by the result of the game being reffed.
I.e. a game involving Cavan and Fermanagh should not have been reffed by a Sligo Man. and Meath v Cavan should not be reffed by a Fermanagh man. Not saying that they aren't impartial but it just makes it more difficult all round for everybody.
