Will the two superpowers of the GAA get relegated?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Something that would be unthinkable at the start of the year but it now looks like both Mayo and Kerry will get relegated to Division 2 this year. Kerry of course have lost four on the trot, while Mayo have now lost three on the trot. Mayo and kerry played in the first round of the league with Mayo managing to pick up the two points following a narrow enough win.

I cant see Mayo picking up any points against Donegal, Cork or Kildare who are in great form this year while Kerry will struggle to get points against Cork, Tyrone and Down. This is a serious problem for the GAA if these two superpowers get relegated. Time for a revamp of the league if this happens.

Kerry might well go down Paddy but don't worry the Dubs, as the other superpower, are safe!

2 ANTI Kerry threads are started by Mayo men. Whats the fascination with Kerry. I feel for the genuine Mayo posters on the forum who must be highly embarrassed by the rubbish been spouted on a regular basis.

It depends on what is top tier team - the five capable of winning an AI - Donegal, Tyrone, Kerry, Cork or Dublin - or a QFist, including Mayo who is a true top-8 Div One team.
I would revamp the league divisions - merge the top three divisions into two 12s.
However, I would not have a full 11-game round robin, however, but a two thirds 8 games per teams - how?
Divide the top 12 into four seeding pots of three - draw one from each to create three groups of four with each team hosts one of the two other groups, plays away at the other, and avoids its own, to complete the 8 games. One 12-team table- top 4 get double chance playoff (with back door), 5th to 8th get single chance and play as Christy Ring Cup format.
Two and a half down, with 10th, joining 3rd to 8th, forming a straight 6-team KO for the remaining Div One place (3rd and 4th with SF byes)

Judging by the anti Mayo reaction from Kerry people on the forum tonight, it looks like we are going to have a serious rivalry in Division 2 next year!

I seriously doubt that the GAA will let the two teams slide to Division 2 given our status and the fact that the weaker counties look up to us, wait for the revamp of the National Leagues and when it happens remember this, you heard it off Paddy first.

Mayo's status of holding the superpower label is beginning to take it's toll alright , 62 years waiting for Sam has to catch up on Horan's men eventually.
